Cromwell High School is a specialist high school for pupils aged 11 to 19 who have severe learning difficulties, profound and multiple disabilities, complex autism and communication needs. Due to an increase in pupil numbers, we have a number of exciting opportunities across the school in a variety of roles.
The successful applicant will be part of a dedicated school team working with teaching staff and other teaching assistants in providing guidance, support, and education for pupils. This may include support in lessons, personal care, therapy, and communication programmes within both small group and individual situations. All applicants should be willing to work with any class throughout the school.
Cromwell is seeking to employ positive, enthusiastic people whose personal attributes will contribute positively to a committed team of staff. The successful applicants for the post will potentially be required to work across the school and sixth form with a wide range of pupils and needs and be flexible to support in any of the classes and age phases. The candidate must have:
1. Experience of successfully supporting learning targets to enable children or young adults to achieve their learning goals.
2. The ability to plan and lead small group learning and cover for short periods of teacher absence.
3. The ability to develop strategies to allow pupils with complex needs to access learning and promote positive behaviour.
4. The ability and confidence to lead a team and be an effective and positive role model to others.
5. The ability to form supportive relationships with parents/carers to ensure the best outcomes for pupils at Cromwell.
6. The physical ability to continue to support secondary aged pupils through periods of challenging behaviour, strictly following the principles and procedures of the school’s training programme (which prioritises avoidance of this need).
7. Experience of working in an educational environment and/or with people with learning difficulties is highly desirable for the post.
