A Full-time Receptionist position has arisen at Stockbridge Village Health Centre working between the hours of 8am to 6:30pm, Monday to Friday. Experience of working in general practice is essential. Applicants should be computer literate. You will need to work unsupervised, so the ability to use your own initiative and prioritise your work is essential.
Flexibility to cover holidays and staff sickness as and when required is a must.
The post is a permanent position, subject to satisfactory references, required employment checks appropriate to the post, and a successful 6 month probation period.
Main duties of the job
1. Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way.
2. Provide general reception and administrative duties as part of a team.
3. Assist other members of the practice team as required.
4. Provide a helpful and friendly service to patients.
5. Answer the telephones promptly ensuring that all incoming lines are covered at all times.
6. Process prescription requests.
7. Deal with queries.
8. Coding of clinical letters (if appropriately trained).

Job responsibilities
1. Make appointments for general surgeries and clinics over the telephone and at the reception desk by use of a computerised appointment system.
2. Deal with queries or signpost them to the relevant member of staff, e.g., Doctor, District Nurse, Health Visitor, Practice Nurse, etc.
3. Handle internal and external phone queries.
4. File/Scan documents.
5. Enter requests for home visits on the visit screen and inform the on-call doctor.
6. Accept, issue, and ensure that repeat prescriptions are signed and ready for collection within the specified time limits.
7. Sort new patient medical records ready for summarising.
8. Perform dipstick testing of urine samples before being sent off to the hospital.
9. Ensure that all pathology samples are labelled correctly and sent.
10. Use your own judgement and effective communication skills.
11. Assist clinical staff with clerical work, e.g., flu clinics, etc.
12. Action tasks on a daily basis.
13. Knowledge of coding and/or summarising is advantageous.
14. Knowledge of how to perform RMS referrals is advantageous.
