We have an exciting opportunity for a chemical pathologist or metabolic medicine physician who has GMC specialist registration and is interested in taking up a consultant post within an innovative NHS Trust that is regarded as Outstanding by the CQC and is part of an exemplar NHS England pathology network. Applications are invited for a whole-time post that is based at East Surrey Hospital which has active working collaborations across the Berkshire & Surrey Pathology Services. The successful candidate will join the part-time clinical scientist at East Surrey Hospital in providing support to the on-site general biochemistry service, as well as duty biochemist and out-of-hours services on a rotational basis with consultant chemical pathologist and clinical scientist colleagues in the network Surrey hub team. In addition, the successful candidate will provide clinical services to the Trust including managing lipid disorders in an outpatient setting. The BSPS Blood Sciences department consists of two hub laboratories and four rapid response laboratories within a large pathology network serving Ashford & St Peter’s, Frimley Park, Royal Berkshire, Royal Surrey, Wexham Park and East Surrey Hospitals There are opportunities for flexible working, including from home and at other hospital sites in the network, as well as for developing a role in clinical leadership and academic, teaching and research activity through the Trust’s active R&D department and its associations with Brighton & Sussex Medical School and the University of Surrey. The wider biochemistry department is strong clinically and analytically with an enthusiastic and supportive team of able chemical pathologists, clinical scientists and biomedical scientists providing a broad range of services including specialist analytical, interpretive and EQA services. BSPS is recognised as a national leader in POCT services. Clinical services run by the department include bariatric, renal stone and lipid OPD clinics and a clinical investigation unit. The Department is a Supra-regional Assay Service Laboratory for Trace Elements and Peptide Hormones. It provides External Quality Assessment Schemes for trace elements, peptide hormones and Point of Care Testing. It also supports the South of England Hub for the Bowel Cancer Screening Programme and has a cardiovascular biomarkers lab. We Provide Emergency And Non-emergency Services To The Residents Of East Surrey, North-East West Sussex, And South Croydon, Including The Major Towns Of Crawley, Horsham, Reigate And Redhill; a Community Of Over 535,000 People. We Provide Acute And Complex Services And a Range Of Outpatient, Diagnostic Services Whilst Crawley Hospital And Horsham In West Sussex And Caterham Dene Hospital And Oxted Health Centre In Surrey Provide Less Complex Planned Services.
