Principal Mechanical Engineer - Building Services
We are looking to recruit a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join the client's Birmingham Industry & Buildings team, becoming an integral part of their skilled Building Services team and assisting with their growing workload.
You will manage and deliver a range of projects from industrial and commercial clients. Responsibilities include defining client design briefs, inspections, specifications, design, and project management.
The ideal candidate will be flexible, dynamic, and capable of contributing to the development of the team. The role requires delivering quality, robust deliverables on time and within budget across sectors such as industrial, logistics, food & beverage, automotive, and more.
Main Work Areas and Role Objectives:
* Manage and deliver mechanical building services work packages in multiple projects, UK and internationally.
* Provide technical leadership and mentorship to design engineers.
* Promote sustainable and LZC technologies.
* Lead energy in-use compliance and thermal analysis to meet standards.
* Implement digital, automation, and parametric design methods.
Technical Development and Management:
* Design from initial concepts to detailed designs.
* Produce and review design calculations using 3D modelling software.
* Create sketch drawings and details for review before issue.
* Prepare specifications and assist with contract documentation.
* Conduct inspections, surveys, and report preparation.
Commercial and Management Duties:
* Assist in proposal writing, marketing, and business development.
* Support project management to ensure profitability.
Required Skills and Experience:
* BEng (Hons) or MEng in Building Services or Mechanical Engineering.
* 5-10 years relevant experience in mechanical design.
* Chartered or Incorporated Status.
* Knowledge of design and construction practices in relevant sectors.
* Understanding of operational aspects of client sectors.
* Proactive, result-oriented, with strong problem-solving skills.
* Ability to work effectively in multidisciplinary and international teams.
* Excellent communication skills.
* Good project management skills.
* Experience with software such as Autodesk Revit, MagiCAD/StabiCAD, ES Virtual Environment, NBS Create.
Additional Information:
Hours: Usual office hours with flexibility depending on projects.
Salary: £55k - £70k (DOE), negotiable.
