Job Summary
Reporting to the UK Technical Manager, the Technical Engineer will support the technical aspects of design, projects, critical power services, and quality departments. Responsibilities include technical report writing, drawing analysis for compliance with project specifications and international standards, programming smart relays and changeover controllers, designing protection schemes, calculating panel heat dissipation, DC system burdens, and supporting client technical queries. Effective communication with project management, operations, and SHEQ teams in the UK and Ireland is essential to meet project deadlines.
What a typical day looks like:
1. Engage positively with the company’s products and facilitate project execution.
2. Assist design teams with product compliance to EN / IEC standards.
3. Identify system deficiencies and implement technical solutions.
4. Review general arrangement and schematic drawings; assist with design, development, and technical submittals.
5. Support sales with technical queries, providing cost-effective, risk-averse solutions.
6. Produce technical reports and perform design calculations.
7. Support the Quality Team with technical insights on defects.
8. Liaise with clients and team members to troubleshoot and resolve technical issues, both remotely and on-site.
9. Manage workload to meet deadlines.
10. Build relationships with internal stakeholders.
11. Assist in training and developing team members.
12. Complete tasks as directed by the UK Technical Manager.
Desired Experience:
1. Electrical Engineering degree (preferable, not mandatory).
2. At least 5 years of experience with Power Switchgear and Controlgear testing, commissioning, or design/support.
3. GCSE English & Maths Grade 4 or equivalent.
4. Basic understanding of international standards related to Power Switchgear and Controlgear is advantageous.
5. Strong personnel management and communication skills.
6. Ability to write clear technical protocols and reports.
7. Team player with a positive attitude.
8. Proactive problem solver with a focus on continuous improvement.
9. Proficient in Microsoft Office and electrical engineering drawings.
10. High attention to detail, able to work under pressure, with good organizational skills.
11. Willingness to travel within the UK and internationally.
12. Valid driver’s license.
