Senior Youth Worker We are proud that Southampton Children’s Services are ‘Good’ and the impact of leadership on practice is ‘Outstanding’. Never has there been a better time to join an organisation going from strength to strength. Ofsted commended our Young People’s Hub as a fantastic place to do direct work with young people, the response to young people’s homelessness was described as effective with an evident desire to support families to stay together, our edge of care support was described creative and our work in response to missing and exploitation was described as thorough. We are looking for an experienced, qualified Youth Worker to join our multi-disciplinary Contextual Safeguarding Team within our Youth Justice Service. The team has been recently developed to lead on our Contextual Safeguarding responses to peer groups, locations and school where extra-familial harm is occurring and to support our Focussed Deterrence approach to serious youth violence. About the team: Each member of the team is aligned to an area of the city to strengthen our responses to extra-familial harm whilst also bringing a specialism to the team based on their experience in youth work, social work or youth justice. The team operates in an outreach capacity, responding to extra-familial harm concerns through interventions with peer groups, locations and schools and collaborating closely with third sector organisations, Social Care, Police, Youth Justice and Education. You will be working with young people, parents/carers and communities to co-produce plans which increase safety and engaging non-traditional partners to build ‘community guardianship’. About you : Our young people need someone who is passionate about improving their lives, who enables them to succeed in learning and developing skills and who can build relationships and motivate change. They need someone who is trauma-informed, kind, consistent and compassionate. We are looking for someone who can work flexibly, creatively and is able to respond to the needs of the local community. The successful candidate will have experience of working in a youth outreach capacity, with children with complex backgrounds and behaviours that challenge, assessing and responding to risks, multi-agency working and have exceptional communication skills. This is an exciting opportunity to be part of a new team, driving forward system change in the way we safeguard children from extra-familial harm and to work within a supportive and passionate service where your wellbeing and development will be prioritised.
