Leaders of The Rissington School are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic and committed Play Worker to join our Lunchtime Team. The hours required are 11:45am – 1:15pm Monday-Friday, although these exact hours and days are not attached to the contract.
Our Lunchtime Team is hard working and dedicated to supporting children with their play and when eating their lunch. The role and expectations for this post are outlined in the job description and job specification (both available on request or from the school’s website). The Upper Rissington site, where this role will be based, has approximately 250 children on roll. Lunchtimes are held over 1 hour and 15 minutes, with children eating in the school hall and playing on the playgrounds and/or grassed areas (unless weather dictates indoor play). The ultimate responsibility of a Lunchtime Play Worker is to ensure children have a meaningful, happy and safe lunchtime when eating and when playing in a stimulating environment.
Play Workers support children in their play, helping them to socialise, be active and be creative; facilitating games and activities; supporting the safe use of equipment and resources; encouraging teamwork and modelling this with other adults; communicating with children and adults effectively, developing positive relationships and keeping everyone safe; supervising children while they’re eating their lunch (and assisting where necessary); setting up and storing away dining tables; wiping and cleaning the hall floor and surfaces prior to and after lunches; and, organising playground equipment, setting up and clearing away with the children as required.
This role is ideal for someone who has a passion for supporting children with their play. They will have good interpersonal skills and love working with and can relate to children, is approachable, patient and calm. They should be a good team player as well as be able to take on ideas and be keen to attend training as required.
