Job Introduction
We are looking for a Senior Accountant to join our Capital and Leasing team, working within Financial Operations based in Cardiff. The successful candidate will have the required technical accounting skills and expertise, to support a qualified, experienced and high performing team, delivering accurate and timely financial reporting in compliance with financial reporting standards and our internal controls framework, to a wide range of stakeholders.
The Senior Accountant will support the Financial Controller in overseeing the team and the accounting for all Capital and Leasing matters. As such, the Senior Accountant needs to have a strong technical understanding of finance and accounting principles, with specific working knowledge of IFRS16.
They will oversee the team's day-to-day operational activity across both capital and leasing, ensuring the integrity of accounting data, accounting treatment and ensuring ledgers are accurate, whilst maintaining internal controls.
The right candidate must have:
* Excellent accounting knowledge across both UK & International financial reporting standards
* An eye for detail, with the ability to be proactive in taking the initiative to problem solve
* Good collaboration and communication capabilities and be able to influence and communicate with Finance and non-Finance staff at all levels of the organisation including our outsource provider
* A keenness to embrace and adopt new technologies and evolve current working practices, using lean methodologies.
Main Responsibilities
* Supporting the Finance Controller and deputising, as appropriate, providing operational day to day task management support to the Finance teams, supporting the month end and quarter end close, as well as managing the overall delivery of the year-end process in your area.
* Line management of the Capital & Leasing accountants and specialists
* Providing technical knowledge and insight to colleagues, collaborating with FP&I counterparts to share key insight into spend to support effective financial planning and decision making.
* Working closely with wider finance and business colleagues to deliver and report accurate numbers to stakeholders whilst ensuring that internal Finance controls, including accounting principles and standards, are adhered to and applied on a consistent basis.
* Communicating complex financial matters clearly and concisely to non-finance stakeholders.
* Managing the liaison with external stakeholders where required including our outsource provider and external auditors.
* Providing sound technical and expert financial/accounting advice to support insightful and informed business decision making, including impact assessment.
Are you the right candidate?
* An excellent understanding of capital accounting and lease accounting, with experience of IFRS16 is essential, and you will combine strong technical knowledge with a proven track record of process improvement.
* You will be a fully qualified accountant with a sound understanding of financial controls and corporate governance.
* You will be able to demonstrate experience in liaising with senior finance and non-finance stakeholders with a service delivery focus.
* You will have experience of coaching and mentoring others in a finance function
* You will enjoy working as part of a team and planning work to ensure delivery to tight deadlines.
* Experience of supporting the delivery of effective financial systems and controls is essential.
* An inquisitive mindset coupled with the ability to investigate and resolve challenging/complex problems is fundamental.
