As a Teaching Specialist at the Northern Clinical School, you'll play a pivotal role in shaping the future of medical education. You'll have the opportunity to organise and implement clinical teaching programs, provide pastoral care to students, and contribute to the development of the next generation of medical professionals. Working within a dynamic team at Northern Health, you'll foster excellence in clinical practice and student wellbeing.
Your responsibilities will include:
4. Deliver Clinical Education: Organise and implement the MD clinical placement program, conduct bedside teaching, and contribute to student examinations and assessments.
5. Provide Student Support: Offer pastoral care and mentoring to medical students, addressing performance issues and providing academic guidance.
6. Collaborate with Stakeholders: Work closely with Northern Clinical School staff, Melbourne Medical School leadership, and Northern Health departments to enhance medical education.
7. Drive Continuous Improvement: Contribute to the quality and efficiency of the MD program through evaluation and research initiatives.

8. Hold a medical degree with specialist qualifications registrable in Victoria.
9. Have experience in medical education within a clinical setting.
10. Possess excellent communication skills and the ability to work effectively with diverse stakeholders.
11. Demonstrate a good working knowledge of relevant departments within Northern Health.
12. Show commitment to supporting students from all backgrounds and providing necessary counselling.
13. Have strong organisational and administrative skills.

Your new team – Department of Medical Education
The Department of Medical Education was established as a department within the Melbourne Medical School in 2015. It has responsibility for the delivery of the Doctor of Medicine (MD) course, research in medical education and a range of professional development postgraduate and non-award programs. The department employs 160+ fixed-term and permanent staff in collaboration with our health service partners to deliver the education, research and engagement activities of the department. This is complemented by a large, actively engaged network of over 180 honorary staff.
The Department supports a growing area of research and scholarship focused on medical and health professional education.
