This is a new full-time post for a Consultant Respiratory Physician sub-specialising in Thoracic Oncology at Royal Papworth Hospital, Cambridge.
The post will be responsible for the care and management of patients being investigated for all forms of malignancy involving the thorax and will involve on-call responsibilities at RPH.
The post will offer the opportunity to engage in research including recruiting patients to clinical trials, tissue banking, and developing research methodology alongside supporting the implementation of Targeted Lung Health Check (TLHC) programs in the Cambridge and Peterborough Integrated Care Board.
Main duties of the job
1. The post holder will provide care to patients being managed by thoracic oncology service as per their job plan. This will involve planning investigations, undertaking diagnostic procedures, and formulating appropriate management plans for both routine and emergency management of patients.
2. Participate in MDT meetings including supporting discussions and guiding outcomes and management.
3. Provide advanced diagnostic and therapeutic procedures including endobronchial ultrasound, interventional bronchoscopy, thoracic ultrasound, and local anaesthetic thoracoscopy.
4. Assist with recruiting patients to clinical trials, tissue banking, and research methodology.
5. The post holder will also be encouraged to submit work / attend national / international meetings in Thoracic Oncology.
6. The post holder will participate in regular Thoracic Oncology on-call rota at RPH (1 week in 5).
7. To share responsibility for the training of specialty trainees, clinical fellows, and medical students in conjunction with consultant colleagues, ensuring that College and local requirements are met.
8. Demonstrate a commitment to Trust mandatory training and continuing professional development.
9. Engagement and support for TLHC programs locally and regionally.

Person Specification
Qualifications
* MBBS or equivalent
* Higher Degree (e.g. MD or PhD)
Experience
* Completion of Certificate of Training (CCT) or equivalent in Respiratory Medicine
* Significant, demonstrable clinical experience in Thoracic Oncology
* Appropriate competencies in relevant cardiopulmonary procedures, including airway management, bronchoscopy, endobronchial ultrasound, and pleural ultrasound.
* Capacity to apply sound clinical knowledge and judgement and prioritise clinical need. Critical and enquiring approach to knowledge acquisition, commitment to self-directed learning and reflective/analytical approach to practice.
* Experience in local anaesthetic thoracoscopy
