Porter/Runner Medical Same Day Emergency Care Unit
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Porter to join the Medical Same Day Emergency Care Unit, a unique emergency care day unit based within Stepping Hill Hospital that aims to streamline patient care in order to provide same day treatment. MSDEC sees a variety of patients with medical conditions and often has a high turnover of patients.
Main duties of the job
As a porter based within the department, the post holder will be responsible for supporting the team to deliver high quality care. They will be responsible for completing a variety of tasks, including:
1. Transporting patients and equipment anywhere in the hospital using wheelchairs, trolleys and/or beds.
2. Collecting and delivering equipment & samples to and from the unit in a timely manner.
3. Delivering meals and drinks to patients under the care of the unit.
4. Performing any other tasks under the direction of the Nurse in Charge.
The post holder would need to be approachable and enthusiastic with an excellent work ethic, who fits in well with the MSDEC team.

Job responsibilities
1. Transport patients anywhere in the hospital using wheelchairs, trolleys and/or beds.
2. Transportation of oxygen and other gas cylinders to other departments.
3. Move mattresses, trolleys and beds, complying with Trust manual handling techniques.
4. Move dirty laundry and replace with clean linen.
5. Collect/deliver medications and samples to/from pharmacy/wards/departments.
6. Carry out all waste management functions as requested.
7. Use electric tugs to move food trolleys and heavy equipment around the site.
8. Move equipment safely throughout the hospital.
9. Move office furniture and equipment.
10. Ensuring that correct and safe methods of work are employed at all times with extra care shown to the safety of patients, staff and visitors.
11. Assist in the delivery of meals and drinks to patients under the care of the unit.
12. Checking of equipment prior to use to ensure all faults are reported to the supervisor as they develop.
13. Reporting any accidents / dangerous occurrences to the Supervisors and participating in the completion of all related accident documentation.
14. Attend relevant statutory and non-statutory training.
15. Carry out duties in accordance with departmental training and Trust policies and codes of practice.
16. Completion of timesheets and work logs / schedules or other attendance system as required.

If successful, this vacancy will require an enhanced DBS check at a cost of £45.50. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary. In addition to this, it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16.
Person Specification
Education & Qualifications
* Good standard of general education.
* NVQ level 2 experience or willingness to work towards.
Knowledge
* Good personal hygiene practices.
* Able to apply health and safety and infection prevention techniques.
Experience
* Previous experience of working within a team.
* Experience of providing high quality customer service.
* Proven ability to work without supervision.
* Previous experience in a similar working environment.
Skills & Abilities
* Ability to complete tasks on time.
* Ability to communicate effectively.
* Able to follow a set of instructions/program of work.
Work Related Circumstances
* Occupational Health clearance.
