An exciting opportunity has arisen for the role of a Cancer Waiting Times Manager who is enthusiastic with a high attention to detail, self-motivated, forward-thinking and wants to embrace change in line with the National Long Term Plan for cancer.
You will oversee the Trust's Cancer Patient Tracker Lists (PTL) and the management of pathways to identify bottlenecks or barriers to care and ensure robust escalation processes and mitigations are delivered where appropriate. Providing support to the divisional management teams to allow for performance improvement.
Responsible for supporting the Cancer Services Manager and Cancer Waiting Times Service Development Manager in delivering department work programmes by monitoring performance and identifying and taking remedial and preventative action as appropriate.
Whilst this post will initially be for a fixed term/secondment period of 12 months, there is a potential for this to become permanent.
Main duties of the job
* Be responsible for leading and managing the Cancer Waiting Times Practice Manager and the team of Cancer Waiting Times Coordinators, Data Clerks and Navigators ensuring day-to-day functions are carried out in an efficient and timely manner.
* Leading on validation of performance and attainment of targets, working with divisional management teams, collaborating with managers to deliver high quality services to patients and staff in cancer care across Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust. The post holder will be responsible for performance monitoring, accurate data collection and validation of all cancer pathways and submissions to national reporting bodies, such as the Cancer Waiting Times system and Cancer Outcomes Services Dataset, in line with reporting obligations and deadlines. Liaising with the Trust's Information Team to ensure the monthly Cancer performance and COSD uploads are sent within the allocated time scales.

About us
We are a team of Coordinators, Navigators and Data Clerks working within Cancer Services on the main Torbay Hospital site and work closely with site-specific clinical teams including Consultants, Specialist Nurses, Operational Managers and administrators.
The team is directly line managed by the Cancer Waiting Times Practice Manager who is managed by this post holder.
Consideration will be given to hybrid working, 1-2 days a week from home.
Job responsibilities
* Work closely with the Cancer Information lead and the Cancer and Imaging Performance Manager to manage the monitoring, prediction of performance, reporting mechanism and data collection of the above mandatory cancer data requirements.
* Liaise with the Trust's Information Team to ensure the monthly Cancer performance and COSD uploads are sent within the allocated time scales, and all validation errors are corrected.
* Attend and liaise regularly with the Peninsula Cancer Alliance to ensure patient pathways are robust and share information.
* Ensure effective liaison with all departments and tertiary centres to fast track all cancer patients and suspected cancer patients through diagnostics to treatment.
* Attend and contribute to operational meetings.
* Train and coach staff across the organisation to ensure compliance with standard operating procedures.
* Escalate issues identified to the manager for inclusion in the risk register, where appropriate, to action remedial work as required.

Person Specification
Qualifications and Training
* Educated to degree level or equivalent experience.
* Qualification in management such as first line manager's diploma or equivalent experience.
* Evidence of a commitment to continuous professional development.
* Proficient in the use of all Microsoft products and ability to create detailed excel spreadsheets and written reports.
Knowledge and experience
* High level of understanding of NHS National Cancer Waiting Times targets and priorities.
* Experience in a previous junior management role / managing teams.
* Evidence of ability to identify ways of improving systems.
