We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Lead Mechanical Handling Engineer to be involved in an industry-leading, cutting-edge design project for a new type of power station.
Reporting to the Manager for Reactor Island Mechanical Handling, the Lead Engineer – Reactor Island Mechanical Handling is accountable for the development of fully integrated technical solutions of through-life Reactor Island Mechanical Handling equipment.
This role, along with other principal engineer roles within the Reactor Island Mechanical Handling team, will be responsible for a significant portion of the entire product scope. This is an evolving picture, and it is vital that the candidate can be a flexible and agile leader to deal with this change.
It will be the responsibility of this candidate to lead, manage, and develop the team to deliver the suite of products through the entire product lifecycle and enable the team to become the design authority for the scope of responsibility.
The candidate will be a leader of mechanical equipment design with a proven track record of delivery of complex safety-critical equipment and with a high level of aptitude for people leadership and technical competence. An agile engineer who is comfortable providing technical leadership within a developing business and circumnavigating the challenges that this brings with ambiguity, changing business and customer demands, and emergent business needs, demonstrating effective leadership behaviours in the face of these challenging circumstances. There is an expectation that the candidate can flex and evolve within the role, within the business and lead the team as it develops.
It is essential that the principal engineer can build the capability within the team for this level of scope and deliver against tough demands from across the business.
The successful candidate shall lead supported by cross-functional integration of all areas of the business required to deliver their scope into the power station delivery model and be responsible for building and maintaining the design capability required. This includes: the overall technical direction of the programmes of work under their scope; leading the demonstration of validity of the technical solutions developed under their direction; the delivery of a robust design and safety justification, supported by detailed mechanical analysis and Design for X assessment; the integration of the solutions into the overall design and development of the total engineering capability needs across mechanical handling design for scope of responsibility. This role also plays a significant part in enabling delivery strategies to be developed, supporting the development of cost and programme and leading people and engineering through an exciting time within the SMR business development.

Pay and Benefits
• Salary - £57,600 - £75,600
• A performance-related bonus of up to 12.5%
