Position Summary:
The Cost Accountant will perform advanced cost accounting analyses to compare estimated costs to actual costs and prepare a variety of related budget reports. The role requires collaboration within the accounting team as well as with various groups of the operations and sales teams.
Tasks/Duties/Responsibilities:
1. Reviews work order transactions to identify costing errors
2. Analyzes cost variance analysis and compares actual to system standards
3. Performs analysis on labor and burden rates and suggests modifications when needed
4. Assists operations with ad hoc analysis on special projects
5. Assists with month-end and year-end inventories
6. Performs monthly reporting on key performance indicators
7. Executes various reports on machine utilization, efficiency, and production volumes
8. Prepares or assists in preparing the forms and documents used in capital project budget preparation
9. Reviews and analyzes actual costs to identify inaccuracies
10. Spearheads process improvement to aid in making costing more accurate
11. Reviews, analyzes, and reports actual profit margins
12. Performs month-end and year-end closings with assistance
13. Determines and recommends cost-effective solutions
14. Provides product costing for pricing and business decisions
15. Performs other related duties as assigned
Knowledge/Skills/Requirements:
1. Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
2. CPA preferred but not required
3. 2+ years of cost accounting experience, preferably in an industrial manufacturing setting
4. Strong verbal and written communication skills
5. Expert Microsoft Office skills to include Excel and related computer applications
6. Thorough understanding of accounting procedures
7. Proven detail attentiveness, organizational, analytical, and time management skills
8. Thorough understanding of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP)
9. Ability to manage confidential information
