Senior Network Engineer

Forward Role is working alongside one of the largest private pension schemes in the UK, serving over 500,000 members from the higher education sector. The scheme includes both defined benefit and defined contribution components, offering security and flexibility for members. They are now on the hunt for a Senior Network Engineer to join the team.
This role is integral to the Network and Security Team. The team’s primary responsibilities include supporting, maintaining, developing and deploying both new and existing technologies within the companies’ network and security platform. This role will involve assisting with technical project work and collaborating closely with other technology services to implement new infrastructure tools. The successful candidate will also act as the technical escalation point for other IT team for critical incidents both during and outside o f regular hours.
Responsibilities
1. Monitoring performance and troubleshooting network problems on the LAN and WAN.
2. Planning, implementing, managing, monitoring and upgrading security measures for the protection of the organizations data, systems and networks.
3. Testing for, documenting and identifying network and security vulnerabilities on the infrastructure.
4. Remediation of system vulnerabilities through patching and updates as part of a planned maintenance program for both Network and Security platforms.
5. Configuration and management of Firewall solutions, working closely with the Cyber Security Analyst to ensure compliance and security across the infrastructure.
6. Successfully deliver project tasks on time and in line with the agreed scope set by I.T. Management and I.T. Project Management Team.
7. Working with the Monitoring and Compliance Analyst develop and implement monitoring systems to ensure existing and new systems are managed and kept up to date.
8. Assist with asset management working with the Configuration Manager.
9. Working closely with the business to identify scheduled maintenance windows and develop a patching and maintenance strategy in line with the organisations security and maintenance policies.
10. Develop and govern IT security technology solutions working with the Cyber Security Analyst.
11. Be the technical escalation point for engineers both in and out of business hours as required.
Technical Skills Requirement
12. Strong experience and knowledge of technologies such as Enterprise grade Next Generation Firewalls, VPNs, Data Centre Routing and Switching, Campus Switching, Network Segmentation and Wireless Controllers
13. Detailed understanding of IP Mobility, Load Balancing and High availability methods and techniques.
14. Experience of managing a multi-site network. Knowledge of security products such as Network Access Control.Knowledge of Network monitoring products.Technical project delivery and planning.
