You will be responsible for the smooth running of several of the CL2 lab facilities across the programme. We work with many different organisms and support a range of exciting scientific projects within the programme. You will work closely with the different Faculty and Core lab teams to understand the requirements of the specific areas of research and will proactively, efficiently and respectfully manage the needs of several CL2 labs along with maintaining compliance with institute Health and safety and Sanger policies. This role will extend to the CL3 lab facilities where appropriate.
You will be responsible for:
* Overseeing the smooth running of the lab and facilities which will include maintenance, servicing, ordering, tracking and organising of lab equipment and facilities.
* Organising space and equipment for specific projects.
* Complying with Health and safety regulations by writing and reviewing risk assessments, carrying out inspections and promoting best practice across the programme.
* Developing and maintaining good relationships with the researchers, Health and Safety, operational and core lab teams as well as the onsite engineering team and external companies to support the varied project aims of the programme.
About you
We are looking for someone with proven experience of working in a laboratory CL2 environment. You will be a confident communicator and have experience of working collaboratively with others in a professional environment. You will be proactive and adaptive, with an open mind that is solutions focused. You will be organised with the ability to work flexibly to support a number of projects and changing priorities and have the ability to balance your workload accordingly. You should have excellent attention to detail and observational skills along with a strong understanding of laboratory health and safety.
Essential Technical Skills:
* Educated to degree level in biological sciences or equivalent work experience
* In-depth knowledge and experience of practical laboratory work
* Previous experience of CL2 laboratory management
* Practical experience of working with MS Office
* Knowledge of laboratory health and safety regulations
* Experience writing COSHH assessments and Biological Risk Assessments
Competencies and Behaviours:
* Proven attention to detail
* Ability to work without extensive supervision
* Good communication skills
* Excellent time management and organisational skills
About us
PaM uses genomic approaches to explore questions of basic science relating to the evolution and spread of bacterial pathogens, and to understand how genotypes and phenotypes relate to each other in both pathogens and hosts.
Your role will be based in the Operations team. As a unit, our focus is to maximise and support the scientific aims of the programme. This is an exciting opportunity to join a team and make an impactful difference to the science that is delivered. We will work with you to provide opportunities for growth and development within the role.
