An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Band 5 Registered Nurse to join our team on Ward C5. Ward C5 is a 24 bed Respiratory Ward within the Care Group of Specialist Medicine. We provide care for patients with both acute and chronic respiratory conditions as well general medical and older people's care.
We are looking for a dynamic individual who is able to provide high standards of care, ensuring quality and best practice standards. All candidates are expected to be able to manage care for a group of patients, ensuring care priorities and workload is effectively managed. The candidate must display professional values in line with the nursing profession as well as uphold the vision and values of our ward area.
We are looking for someone who is passionate in respiratory medicine and keen to develop knowledge and broaden their clinical competencies in areas such as oxygen management, High Flow Nasal Oxygen (AIRVO), NIV, Tracheostomy and Laryngectomy Care as well as managing a patient with a chest drain. We are a highly skilled team and the candidate must be dedicated to continual professional develop within our speciality. We work closely with Critical Care Outreach, Respiratory Nurse Specialists, Macmillan Palliative Care Service and other Clinical Specialists.
Main duties of the job
Assessing patient care needs, planning, delivery and evaluation of nursing care, ensuring a patient centred flexible approach, working within best practice as well as local policy and procedure.Ensuring priorities and care delivery are managed.
Ensure safe delivery of prescribed medications and monitor effectiveness, reporting as necessary to medical team. Effective monitoring of the patient's clinical condition using tools as well as clinical judgement. Escalation as required.
Appropriate harm reduction measures to promote safety for the patient.
Work effectively within the team and MDT, advocating for the patient as needed.
Safe admission, transfer, discharge and handover of care of the patient.
Communicate effectively with the patient and those important to them, ensuring they are well informed and kept up to date, ensuring the patient's wishes and priorities are respected.
Knowledge of legal frameworks with regards to consent & capacity, safeguarding adults and vulnerabilities.
Demonstrate clinical and professional knowledge. Dedication to mandatory training as well as courses/CPD that will enhance knowledge in the field of respiratory.
Clear and Concise record keeping, both digital and written records.
To be able to undertake the role of the shift leader, to ensure safety and oversight of the clinical area in absence of the ward manager or deputy.
To supervise other qualified and unqualified staff and contribute effectively and positively to their learning.
