Position Summary: Reporting to the Facilities Supervisor, the Facilities Maintenance Worker assists with various facility maintenance, lawn maintenance and snow removal activities performed within the Facilities Division.
Primary Responsibilities:
* Under the direction and supervision of the Facilities Supervisor, provides indoor/outdoor facilities maintenance support to management and staff according to the department’s functions.
* Ensure compliance with building and facility usage policies and the security and integrity of building perimeters.
* Performs quality control in all functions.
* Follows through on procedures that ensure adherence to health and safety policies and procedures of the County, including: aiding the Facilities Supervisor in:
o Maintaining up to date SDS information at all Public Works, Court House and Archives facilities.
o Providing copies of new SDS to Human Resources for adherence to health & safety policies.
o Ensuring WHMIS labeling requirements are met for all designated substances in Public Works, Court House and Archives facilities; assists Supervisor as required in completing monthly workplace inspection reports.
* Wears appropriate Personal Protective Equipment at all times and adheres to all safety requirements in accordance with the Corporate Health and Safety Manual and the Occupational Health and Safety Act. Reports any defective equipment, identified risks, incidents and injuries to the Supervisor or designate upon becoming aware of any such information.
* Performs lawn maintenance activities to ensure that buildings are operated and maintained in safe, attractive and functional condition.
* Provides winter maintenance for specific Perth County facility parking lots. Operates plow truck with sanding/salting attachment to remove ice and snow from parking lots.
* Inspects equipment on a regularly scheduled basis and reports any mechanical concerns to the Mechanic.
* Maintains daily vehicle/equipment logs.
* Other duties as assigned by Manager.
* Ensures that Occupational Health and Safety practices and County of Perth policies and procedures are adhered to; wears any personal protective equipment required to ensure personal safety and reports any known hazards and/or incidents in the workplace to immediate Supervisor.
Qualifications:
* Secondary school diploma in a related field.
* First Aid, CPR/AED Level C.
* 2 years related experience.
* Possess Class "G" Driver's License in good standing.
* General knowledge of building and construction, demonstration of skills including general carpentry, masonry, roofing, plumbing and painting.
* Technical and mechanical knowledge required for operation and maintenance of electrical, plumbing, heating and air conditioning systems.
* Basic Computer Skills.
* Knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Ontario Building Code.
* Ability to operate a variety of lawn and snow maintenance vehicles and equipment safely and efficiently.
* Ability to use and operate power tools safely and efficiently.
* Good communication and public relations skills.
Shift: Monday to Friday, 7:00 am to 4:30 pm (44 hours per week). Occasional evening, weekend and on-call hours, when required.
Salary Range: $61,384.48-$64,132.64/hour (based on Perth County’s 2025 salary grid).
