Capability Unit Metrea Management is our global shared service providing support for the Capability Units (CU) in areas such as People, Operations, Finance, Legal, Strategy and Information Technology. Position Summary The Head of Safety (H/Safety) leads the Safety, Quality, and Training (SQT) Capability Area (CA) and ensures that SQT standards are consistently upheld across Metrea. The H/Safety is responsible for developing, operating, and continuously improving Metrea’s (Aviation) Management System key elements of which are the Safety Management System (SMS) and Quality Management System (QMS). The H/Safety will oversee the introduction of a new SMS platform to deliver a coherent approach to Safety and Quality across the enterprise, raising standards of safety risk management and compliance monitoring. SQT contributes to operational efficiency and effectiveness and strives to prevent injury to our people and damage to our assets. Key Duties and Responsibilities Promote Metrea's values, with an emphasis on Safety, Quality and Training, to develop a deep-rooted safety culture which delivers safe, reliable and compliant operations enabling us to be effective, efficient and evolvable. Enterprise level leader responsible for the development, maintenance and effectiveness of the Metrea (Aviation) Management System to deliver a common, consistent and exemplary approach to safety, quality and training. In conjunction with H/Quality, formulate and implement a comprehensive safety, quality and training strategy that aligns with regulatory requirements and industry best practices. Develop and enforce safety policies and procedures across all Capability Units (CU) within the group to ensure consistent safety standards. Provide advice on safety matters, offering comprehensive guidance and expertise on all safety-related topics, ensuring that leaders and teams across the CU are well-informed on best practices, compliance requirements, and risk management strategies. Guide and mentor CU leadership and Safety Managers to align all hazard identification and risk management activities with relevant regulatory requirements, industry best practices, and Metrea policy, to ensure safe, reliable and compliant operations globally. Establish procedures to ensure enterprise level visibility of CUs safety performance, to include metrics, trends, and predictive insights to identify and mitigate potential risks. Design and deliver safety training programs for all levels of staff, ensuring they are well-informed about safety protocols and best practices. Promote a culture of continuous improvement by encouraging feedback, conducting regular reviews, and implementing best practices in safety management. Oversee the investigation of safety incidents to identify root causes and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence. Ensure CUs follow internal occurrence reporting and investigation procedures to identify root causes, contributing factors, and potential systemic issues. Ensure CUs have effective Emergency Response Plans (ERPs) which are exercised and reviewed in accordance with regulation and best practice and which link with the enterprise level ERP. Establish coordination of CU Crew Training to enhance standards and share best practice. Competency Statements Extensive aerospace exposure to include safety, quality and training, with deep expertise in the development, promotion and management of SMS. Good understanding in the field of global aviation aerospace and more broadly in defence along with associated missions, assets, technologies and operations. Proven ability to liaise and communicate fluently with senior leadership, policy, government, regulatory and industry officials. Required Education, Experience and Certificates Education: Degree in a related field and/or combination of education and related experience. Formal training in and a deep understanding of: Safety regulations, ICAO standards and national regulatory requirements including safety investigation techniques, root cause analysis, and technical report writing; Risk assessment and mitigation strategies, safety audits, and continuous improvement processes; Human factors in aviation. Experience: A minimum five (5) years of experience in an aviation safety leadership / management role. Implementation, management and assessment of SMS. Knowledge of all areas of flight operations, ground operations, airworthiness and aircraft maintenance, and regulations governing aviation in various jurisdictions. Knowledge and understanding of the role of external agencies (including FAA, NTSB, ICAO, EASA, UKCAA, CASA, OSHA, etc.) and associated compliance requirements for safety programs. Extensive experience in risk management and mitigation. Implementation and management of continuous improvement. Understanding of aviation related quality assurance programs. Understanding of the regulatory (FAA, CAA, EASA, CASA) requirements for crew training. Certificates and Licenses: Valid Driver's License Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint Project, and Visio). Supervisory Responsibility: Line manager to other roles within SQT capability area. Indirect supervision of CU SQT personnel with a commensurate mentoring responsibility. Facility Location: Metrea Management – Hybrid with regular office attendance at our London HQ. Travel Travel requirements are: 50% (including overseas travel) Additional Eligibility Qualifications Must be able to accomplish all duties with little or no assistance. Position Type and Expected Hours of Work This is a full-time position with typical working hours of Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Hours, and work shifts may change in accordance with department and business needs. Exempt Employees must have the ability to be on-call and available as business needs require. Non-Exempt employees may be required to work over 40 hours per week with approval from the department manager.
