Part Time - Medicines Resource Unit Pharmacist - Band 8A
This post is based within the Surrey Heartlands Medicine Resource Unit (MRU). The MRU is the clinical co-ordination hub for Pharmacy and Medicines Management. It provides the mechanisms to support the safe and cost-effective management of medicines across all partner organisations in Surrey Heartlands ICB. This post will support an experienced team in functions relating to:
1. Medicines access and governance
2. Clinical advice
3. Education and training
4. Information and resource development
This role provides clinical and operational support to system-wide medicines governance processes and will use evidence-based medicine to develop guidance and implementation resources, support decision-making committees and develop relationships and networks.
Main duties of the job
1. Supporting the implementation and achievement of the MRU workplan.
2. Support senior leaders in the development and implementation of services relating to redesign of care pathways developed through the ICS ensuring that arrangements are in place to ensure legal, timely and appropriate access to medicines.
3. Represent Surrey Heartlands to a range of healthcare professionals and patients and at the interface (including specialist consultants). Deal with contentious medication related policies and issues e.g. shared care guidance.
4. As an MRU link to Special Interest Groups, provide clinical knowledge and expertise to support work areas.
5. Supporting the operation of the Surrey Heartlands Area Prescribing Committee.
6. Providing a liaison between the MRU and Places to identify clinical or operational issues that require action from the ICS.
7. Work collaboratively with neighbouring ICS teams to facilitate agreement across geographies to minimise post-code lottery and share APC and DTC papers to avoid duplication of workload.
8. Providing expert clinical and pharmaceutical input the individual funding requests process.
9. Work collaboratively with Provider Trusts' Pharmacy teams.

Person Specification
Training
* Educated to Masters level or equivalent in Pharmacy
* Current Member of the General Pharmaceutical Council
* Evidence of post qualifying and continuing professional development
* Critical appraisal training
Knowledge
* Knowledge of therapeutics and service developments in medicines and prescribing and pharmaceutical policy
* Up to date knowledge of NHS policy and other relevant directives/legislation in relation to medicines
* Up to date knowledge of local and national guidance in relation to medicines such as NICE, NHS England, Area Prescribing Committee & System priorities
* Must have an understanding of the background to and aims of current healthcare policy and appreciate the implications of this on engagement
* Knowledge of the commissioning process, Payment by Results (PbR) & the National Tariff
* Should have an appreciation of the relationship between system partners - including the ICB, Surrey County Council and Providers - as well as regional bodies like NHS England
Experience
* Experience of working in specialist clinical area(s)
* Experience of committees/working groups
