An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced, enthusiastic and motivated nurse to join our highly skilled Neuro-Oncology Specialist Nursing Team. We are looking for individuals who have passion and drive to deliver high quality individualised patient care. Under the supervision of the Neuro-Oncology Specialist Nurses, you will contribute to the provision of expert nursing care for patients and their families with Brain and Central Nervous System (CNS) tumours, Base of Skull (BoS) tumours. As a band 6 Support Sister/Charge Nurse you will be mentored and supported by the neuro-oncology specialist nursing team and will carry a supervised caseload providing specialist nursing advice, information and support to patients with a Brain/CNS and BoS tumour at all stages of their disease, and, in particular whilst they are being cared for at South Tees NHS Hospitals Foundation Trust thus ensuring a smooth transition of care from primary surgery through to radiotherapy/chemotherapy and into the community, to discharge or death, thereby establishing links between the acute and primary care group. Main duties of the job The successful candidate will be a core member of the specialist Brain and CNS and Base of Skull Tumour MDT and will possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills. You will work across the Trust linking closely with other professionals in providing specialist nursing care and advice to patients and clinical colleagues. You will contribute to the provision of expert clinical practice, multi-professional education, clinical audit and service development. The post holder will have the opportunity to positively influence care for Brain and CNS/BoS patients and their families. Applicants will have significant post registration experience; they must have additional experience within cancer care, palliative care or neurosciences, they will have a relevant first degree or be working towards this. This is a challenging and demanding role and requires a proactive, self-motivated, dedicated person who is capable of contributing to managing a highly complex care pathway across multiple agencies and services to ensure the highest quality of care and service delivery for all patients. You will have excellent communication skills, be able to manage your own workload, under supervision, and have problem solving skills. You will be an excellent team player but equally be able to work independently, under minimal supervision.
