Job Description
Purpose of Position: Serves as resource to Sterile Processing customers by ensuring that all surgical supplies, instruments and equipment are properly processed.
Description
1. Decontamination:
1. Identifies and uses appropriate methods and solutions to decontaminate instruments and clinical equipment.
2. Able to sort, disassemble, decontaminate, rinse and disinfect instruments and clinical equipment.
3. Understands and adheres to proper PPE attire.
2. Preparing Instruments:
1. Consistently uses count sheets to correctly assemble instrumentation.
2. Properly protect, wrap/containerize and or peel package and label instruments.
3. Identifies and inspects for cleanliness and functionality of instrumentation.
4. Utilizes automated tracking system.
3. Storage/Distribution:
1. Properly handles and stores sterile supplies, equipment and instruments.
2. Accesses Doctor preference cards and sets up case carts accordingly.
3. Retrieves, disburses and tracks medical and surgical supplies and equipment to the customer in a quality and timely manner.
4. Sterilization Process:
1. Selects appropriate sterilization methods.
2. Understands and adheres to the correct practices of sterilization.
3. Properly documents and verifies sterilization loads and biological tests to determine the efficiency of the sterilization process.
5. Equipment:
1. Operates and understands the equipment specific to SPD: Steam and Sterrad sterilizers, washer/disinfectors, ultrasonic cleaners and heat sealers as well as a different array of testing devices.
6. Inventory Control:
1. Understands and implements the processes involved in ordering, receiving, stocking and monitoring usage of surgical supplies.
2. Communicates supply issues to appropriate personnel in a timely manner.
7. General:
1. Serves as a resource to customers on all SPD functions.
2. Performs other job-related duties as required.
3. In conjunction with management tracks his/her progress in regards to training, staff meetings and in-service education.

Qualifications
Qualifications Grade FHS6/00172, Sterile Processing Technician 1:
* Ability to read, write and communicate in English.
* High School Education or GED.
* Basic Computer skills.
* Good interpersonal skills, being concise by phone, intercom and in person.
* Successful completion of Medical Terminology course OR successful passage of CCH Medical Terminology challenge exam.
* Must have 1 of the following:
o Successful completion of Anatomy & Physiology course (High School level or higher).
o Successful passage of CCHC Anatomy Exam.
o SPD Technician Certification.
o 3 years recent (within the past 5 years) SPD experience.
* Must take and pass SPD Technician Certification exam within 9 months of hire and must maintain certification.
Qualifications Grade FHS7/00173, Sterile Processing Technician 2:
* Must qualify as a Grade FHS6 – Sterile Processing Technician 1. In addition,
* 1 year experience as a Sterile Processing Technician 1.
* SPD Technician Certification.
