Thistlethwhyte ward is an acute Medicine for Elderly ward on the St Mary's Hospital site. The patients on the ward are cared for in an environment that provides comfort, safety and support for their stay. We encourage innovation and work closely with an inspiring team of nurses, medics, dementia specialists, occupational therapists, discharge coordinators and physiotherapists to ensure our patients remain active and engaged. We also pride ourselves on our communication with our colleagues in the community to ensure safe discharge occurs every time. Main duties of the job
* To provide sound clinical leadership and develop support mechanisms for sharing good practice within the department and Trust wide.
* Maintain and promote effective communication with the Dermatology team, all members of the multi-disciplinary team and other wards or departments, including formal presentation of information relating to your department. Communications will take place using formal and informal methods.
* Ensure there are systems in place to develop nurse roles and nurse-in-charge role which meet both needs of service and corporate objectives.
* Using specialised knowledge ensure the clinical needs of patients are met, taking overall responsibility for the department.
* Assess, plan, implement and evaluate programmes of care, actively seeking evidence based practice which will support clinical outcomes as appropriate.
* To set annual Departmental objectives with the General Manager and/or Directorate Senior Nurses ensuring that all staff are aware of them and their implementation.
* To involve staff in the developments and business of the Trust. Actively encourage and promote, supporting where possible within the constraints of service delivery, staff membership of Trust wide initiatives/committees, professional organisations/forums and/or relevant Trade Unions.
* Plan the duty rota taking into consideration the needs of the service.
* Maintain data quality standards for ICHIS/CERNER for department or similar systems in the future.
