Job Description
The role of Senior Competition Lawyer provides legal advice and guidance to senior management on the application of competition law to the Company’s operations, business plans and strategic objectives, as well as implementing relevant policies to deliver an effective compliance programme.
What you'll do
* Advising business and commercial teams on competition law issues associated with commercial strategies and contracts.
* Advising on all types of antitrust issues including horizontal and vertical relationships.
* Advising on behavioural issues including those relating to possible abuse of dominance risk, including market definition and assessment of dominance risk.
* Advising on inorganic growth opportunities and transactions such as airline alliances and joint businesses, including preparing relevant self-assessments and regulatory submissions and liaising with regulators.
* Keeping BA competition policies up-to-date and consistent with International Airlines Group policies.
* Managing the delivery of BA’s global competition compliance programme, including identifying risk areas and creating and delivering tailored training and awareness content.
* Advising and supporting on the competition law aspects of aviation regulatory issues including airport price control.
* Managing external legal advisors, creating realistic budgets to ensure that external advice is provided at appropriate levels of quality and cost.
* Assisting in the management of competition related investigations by regulators, including responding to RFIs and representing the Company before CMA, EU Commission, CAA and other foreign regulators.
* Advising on state aid, trade and subsidy laws.
What you'll bring to us
* Qualified solicitor/barrister with minimum 5 years PQE in private practice or in-house in UK and/or EU competition law (desired)
* In house experience desirable but not essential
* Broad experience of all aspects of competition law enforcement.
* Aviation sector experience useful but not essential.
* Ability to use independent judgment and discretion when making the majority of decisions
* Pragmatic in devising actions and solutions to mitigate compliance risks.
* Writes accurate, concise, and relevant reports.
