A respected and ambitious national subcontractor with a highly successful track record currently seeks a new Commercial Director. A privately owned business with its staff development and friendly culture at its core, it boasts a rich and proud history. One of the largest contractors of its type in the UK, it has a strong forward pipeline of projects and a clear strategy to continue to develop and improve the resources, performance, and capabilities of the business.
Reporting to the board, this person will be responsible for managing a national commercial team of Surveyors and taking a company lead on contract disputes, championing dispute avoidance and resolution across the business.
This opportunity suits someone commercially astute at project and corporate levels, someone able to manage and train others, who is both diligent and company-minded. Responsibilities:
1. Leading commercial management and dispute resolution for a £100m+ turnover sub-contracting business.
2. Management of a national commercial team.
3. Business lead for dispute and claims resolution and avoidance managing.
4. Undertaking both a hands-on and strategic role.
5. Developing collaborative relationships with new and existing clients, staff, departments, group companies, and suppliers.
6. In-house training and mentoring of commercial teams and junior staff.
Experience Required:
1. Someone enthusiastic about dispute resolution and avoidance.
2. Ideally, a degree qualified in quantity surveying or equivalent with additional qualifications in construction law or charterships are desirable.
3. Someone used to working closely with counsel on sensitive matters.
4. Extensive knowledge of contracts, in particular JCT and NEC, construction processes.
5. A confident, articulate communicator with high-level oral and written English language skills.
6. At least part of your background is likely to have been spent with a main contractor or specialist subcontractor.
7. Experience within dispute resolution beneficial.
8. A career ideally demonstrating progression, loyalty, and professionalism.
