We have an exciting opportunity to join our Trust as Associate Director of Safeguarding. Reporting to our Deputy Chief Nurse, our future Associate Director of Safeguarding will bring expert knowledge in the field of safeguarding, public protection, and vulnerable persons. They will lead our safeguarding teams, adults, children, vulnerable women, and the learning disabilities and dementia services, bringing these functions together for the first time.

Main duties of the job
As an experienced registered professional working at a Trust-wide level, the post holder will have a lead role in ensuring that the Trust has robust mechanisms in place for safeguarding and public protection, including those required for the Trust to fulfil its statutory duties.
The post holder will be required to draw on and ensure access to high levels of specialist knowledge about safeguarding, public protection, and vulnerable persons national policies and processes to support the Executive Office of Nursing, AHPs, and Midwifery in delivering on the agendas and in meeting statutory compliance across the Trust.
The Associate Director will lead the Trust's safeguarding teams, adults, children, and vulnerable women, and the learning disabilities and dementia services, bringing these functions together for the first time.
As a member of the senior nursing, AHP, and midwifery team, you will be professionally accountable to the Deputy Chief Nurse and be a highly visible member of the Executive Office of Nursing, AHPs, and Midwifery.
Job responsibilities
1. Act as a member of the senior team, deputising for the Deputy Chief Nurse and taking responsibility for corporate strategic and operational functions in relation to the Safeguarding and Public Protection agenda including project leadership and sponsorship, on behalf of the organisation.
2. Represent the Executive Office of Nursing, AHPs, and Midwifery in key relationships, both within the operational management and governance structures of the Trust and with external partners and agencies.
3. Deputising for the Deputy Chief Nurse in providing advice and guidance to the Trust on all safeguarding issues, service, and practice development in relation to safeguarding, public protection, and mental health.
4. Providing operational management to Safeguarding Teams across the trust, bringing these functions together for the first time.
5. Delivering corporate support to the Trust for professional governance and assurance issues relating to the safeguarding, public protection, and mental health agenda.
6. Ensuring support to other patient safety and safeguarding functions coordinated by the Executive Office of Nursing, AHPs, and Midwifery are managed safely and effectively, supporting other colleagues in the team to deliver on Executive Office functions.
7. Working in partnership across boundaries externally and ensuring the differences regarding the different Local Authority Areas are incorporated into all safeguarding developments within the Trust.
8. Acting independently, decisively, and effectively within all portfolio areas and being able to challenge current thinking positively and creatively in order to develop new and better policy and operational working practices.
9. Linking in with the Divisions and developing key relationships with the Divisional Directors of Quality & Nursing and Director of Midwifery, supporting these post holders around safeguarding responsibilities within their areas.
10. Work with the Divisions to develop and promote the safeguarding agenda including MARAC, MAPPA, and Prevent.
11. Identifying areas of development within the safeguarding agenda and work with the Divisions to develop into practice.
12. To interpret national health, social care, and professional strategy/policy to produce relevant clinical guidance, advice, and direction.
13. To lead the audit work relating to safeguarding linking in with other departments/audits to provide safeguarding assurance to the Trust and external partners.
14. Lead on the Trust's assurance framework for safeguarding.
Person Specification
Qualifications
Essential
* Registered nurse, midwife, AHP, or social worker
* Degree in nursing, midwifery, or subject suitable for AHP registration or social work
* Health or social care related master's degree

* Additional professional development activities and memberships
Experience
Essential
* Extensive experience at a senior clinical or social work level, with evidence of working across a large complex health care organisation
* Extensive experience in all aspects of safeguarding in acute hospitals
* Experience in managing change in a complex environment.
* Experience of quality improvement methods and techniques
* Experience of analysing complex data and or national guidance and being able to interpret and apply it locally
