Our Commodity and Energy Trading practice is looking for individuals at all levels of experience to join the team.
Our commodities and energy trading focused team operates across major shipping companies and commodity charterers. The freight and shipping trading industry is at a pivotal moment, facing the challenge of decarbonisation while ensuring the continuity of global trade. As regulatory demands for sustainability intensify, the industry must transition to greener fuels and innovative technologies, navigating complex financial and operational hurdles.
We work with clients to help them to translate strategy into action, to enter new markets, build new capabilities, and to revolutionise their trading businesses and IT landscapes. We’re looking for people to join our growing team who have a passion for freight and shipping trading, and for collaborating with clients face to face to help solve their key challenges. You'll be involved in strategically significant client transformation projects, primarily in the UK and Europe, with opportunities to work on global initiatives.
What you will be doing
From designing target operating models for trading companies, through to implementing integrated shipping and chartering solutions. Here are some examples of projects we typically get involved in:
1. Trading systems transformations: Implementations, upgrades and system selections for market leading trading organisations including new and innovative products.
2. Business restructuring and operational excellence: Designing and implementing operating models for complex global organisations that cover the full trading and commodity lifecycle. Reviewing and redesigning process models to achieve industry leading levels of excellence.
3. Digital Transformation: Working with clients to mature their digital capabilities and embed ML and AI into their architectures, including improving commercial decision making and the trader decision support tooling in use.
4. Risk Advisory: Helping organisations to strengthen their risk management frameworks; analyse and design their risk mitigation strategies; improve governance and reporting; and the implementation of best practice solutions for risk management.
Your skills and experience
We’re looking for people across all different levels of experience, from senior consultants with a few years under the belt to experienced senior managers and directors with several years of project delivery experience.
Here are some of the key skills and requirements that we look for. We don’t expect candidates to have experience across all these areas:
1. Trading Experience: Expertise in different areas of freight and shipping, including marine freight markets, the supply-demand balance for shipping capacity, key trade routes, and the impact of economic cycles on freight rates. Familiarity with different types of shipping contracts would also be useful, such as Time Charter (TC), Voyage Charter, and Bareboat Charter. Understanding of terms like demurrage, laytime, boil-off gas and dead freight.
2. Project Lifecycle Management: Proven track record of managing end-to-end project lifecycles. Adaptability to key roles across the Software Development Life Cycle.
3. Business Analysis: Expertise in shaping processes and solutions, capturing business problems, value drivers, and functional/non-functional requirements.
4. Digital Transformation: Experience in the development and delivery of digital trading consulting capabilities, including data-driven trading.
5. Project/Program Management: Proficiency in project/program management and/or Agile delivery.
6. Data Strategy and Management: Strong skills in data strategy, architecture, and management.
7. Client-Facing Delivery: The ability to take ownership and deliver results in client-facing environments.
