Machine Shop Inspector - Precision Engineering

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:30 PM
Salary: £16.50 - £19.50 per hour (DOE)
Overview
We are supporting a well-established precision engineering and machined components manufacturer in their search for a Machine Shop Inspector to join their quality team. This role is critical in ensuring that all manufactured components conform to customer specifications and industry standards. The successful candidate will work closely with production and quality teams, conducting inspections using CMM machines, Faro scanning hardware, and traditional measuring equipment.
Key Responsibilities
Inspect components at various stages of the production process, ensuring compliance with engineering drawings and specifications.
Perform first-off, in-process, and final inspections using CMM (PC-DMIS, Polyworks), Faro scanning hardware, and conventional measuring tools (micrometers, gauges, verniers, etc.).
Identify and document non-conformances, working collaboratively with production staff and quality engineers to resolve issues and improve processes.
Program and operate CMM machines, ensuring accurate and repeatable measurements.
Read and interpret engineering drawings, including geometric dimensioning and tolerancing (GD&T).
Maintain detailed inspection reports and records, ensuring traceability and compliance with company and customer requirements.
Work with the production team to provide real-time feedback and suggest process improvements to enhance quality and efficiency.
Adhere to ISO 9001 and AS9100 quality standards, following established procedures and best practices.
Qualifications & Experience
Previous experience as a Quality Inspector or Machine Shop Inspector within a precision engineering environment.
Proficiency in CMM programming and operation, particularly with PC-DMIS and Polyworks software.
Experience using Faro scanning hardware or equivalent inspection systems.
Strong knowledge of precision measuring instruments and techniques.
Ability to read and understand complex engineering drawings, including GD&T symbols.
Attention to detail and problem-solving skills, with a methodical approach to quality control.
