Professional Responsibilities:
1. Maintain up to date HCPC and RCSLT registration, working to their standards of proficiency, conduct, performance and ethics.
2. Demonstrate knowledge of and adherence to National, RCSLT and local clinical guidelines.
3. Be accountable for own professional actions and recognise professional boundaries seeking advice and support when necessary.
4. Obtain informed consent at each stage of care pathway from client/carer/relatives.
5. Maintain confidentiality.
6. Promote the department in a positive and professional manner.
7. Manage own time and prioritise tasks with minimal support.
8. Delegate to others, only those tasks that are within their known competencies.
Training and Development:
1. Undertake training as necessary in line with the development needs of the post and as agreed with line manager as part of the personal development planning process.
2. Attend all mandatory training.
3. Participate in the departments appraisal system.
4. Access the departments supervision scheme, thereby reflecting on own practice with peers.
Patient Related Responsibilities:
1. Manage a defined general and specialist caseload independently, following departmental guidelines.
2. Monitor performance against guidelines and standards, alerting the appropriate line manager when difficulties arise.
3. Plan and prioritise patient workload.
4. Provide a highly specialist second opinion service.
5. Provide a specialist speech and language therapy service to patients at various locations.
6. Undertake assessments and use specialist knowledge to inform clinical judgements and structure care plans.
7. Communicate complex information to clients/carers/relatives effectively.
8. Negotiate confidently with clients/carers/relatives around individual case management.
9. Demonstrate clinical effectiveness using evidence-based practice and outcome measures.
10. Adapt practice to meet individual patient circumstances.
11. Follow departmental policy for interpreter services when required.
12. Work closely with clients/carers/relatives and multi-disciplinary team members.
13. Refer to other services when appropriate, ensuring consent is obtained.
14. Deliver and lead complex care pathways.
15. Follow complaints policy, striving to resolve conflicts at the therapist and client level.
16. Be aware of safeguarding policies and follow procedures.
17. Ensure safety and appropriateness of resources used in assessment and treatment.
18. Report problems and accidents following incident/accident guidelines.
19. Be responsible for the security of equipment in clinical areas.
Management Responsibilities:
1. Provide some operational line management duties including return to work meetings and performance management.
2. Assist in the induction of new staff members.
3. Formulate team and training plans in liaison with the Team Leader.
4. Involve in the recruitment and selection process for the team.
5. Contribute to developing the workplace as a learning environment.
6. Advise team leader/service lead on service delivery issues.
7. Supervise staff within the specialist area.
Information Governance:
1. Maintain up to date and accurate records in line with professional standards.
2. Gather activity data accurately and ensure provision of information promptly.
3. Produce letters and reports as required within stated time scales.
4. Act in accordance with Wirral Community NHS Trust policies and procedures.
5. Ensure confidentiality as per the Data Protection Act 1998.
Research and Development:
1. Participate in and conduct Clinical Governance/Audit projects.
2. Contribute to departmental audit/research design and implementation.
