Job Description
We are WSP - Join us and make your career future ready!
In today's world it's important to work for a company that has clear purpose, giving back to communities and supporting what is truly important in the world. When considering a career move it's vital to work for a business that is aligned to your values and goals, a place where you can belong.
YOUR NEW ROLE, WHAT'S INVOLVED?
* Delivering bespoke numerically orientated geoscience projects to assist decision making in developing the subsurface, with a particular focus on modelling flow and fluid migration processes. Our projects span geological storage of nuclear waste, CO2 and hydrogen, deep geothermal energy; mine hydrogeology and waste; and tunnels/excavations for infrastructure.
* Projects typically require groundwater flow and solute transport hydrogeological modelling, reservoir simulation/history matching, uncertainty analysis/quantification and/or simulation of coupled-processes (e.g. thermo-hydro-mechanical-chemical-gas).
* Assisting with the development of software solutions (e.g. for data processing/analysis, numerical simulation, post-processing and visualisation) within the global geoscience modelling team, including development of WSP's in-house FracMan modelling software.
* Being proactive with WSP's global practice area networks in seeking opportunities to collaborate on business and technical initiatives across Energy, Infrastructure, Nuclear waste and Mining sectors.
* Maintaining close links with our commercial clients in WSP's various business sectors, including delivering software training courses, seeking opportunities to offer our existing services or innovating new solutions to fit clients' needs.
* Supporting business development and writing proposals to help grow our portfolio of modelling projects and technical areas.
* Production of high-quality technical reports and delivery of presentations.
* Communicate project deliverables to clients and be an advocate for our modelling services to both external and internal stakeholders.
* Staying abreast of the latest technological advances and industry trends in the fields of computational geoscience and numerical modelling.
YOUR TEAM
* You will be joining a multi-disciplinary team of experts in the UK, with a focus on the delivery of technologically driven consulting and software solutions. Our projects range across industries including Energy (including renewables such as deep geothermal and CCUS, as well as oil & gas), Nuclear waste disposal, Infrastructure (tunnels, slopes, geotechnics and underground storage), and Mining.
* This role reports to the senior leaders of the WSP Geoscience group, located in the UK. The core of our UK-based team is made up of approximately 12 members, covering geology, geomechanics/engineering, hydrogeological/reservoir simulation, geophysics and software engineering.
* A choice of office locations is available for the role, with national coverage, favouring London/Reading, Bristol/Cardiff, Birmingham/Nottingham, Manchester and Edinburgh.
WE'D LOVE TO HEAR FROM YOU IF YOU HAVE
* Doctorate or Master's degree (or equivalent) in a Mathematics, Engineering, Earth Science or Physics-related field.
* Background in sourcing/winning and delivering consulting projects commercially.
* Strong track record of the use and development of numerical flow modelling tools and techniques, as applied to hydrogeological, fluid dynamics and/or reservoir engineering applications.
* Experience of scripting languages such as (ideally) Python, or similar.
* Ability to demonstrate a resourceful approach to work, displaying initiative and strong decision-making skills.
* Excellent verbal communication skills, in English, with the ability to both absorb and impart concepts and information effectively.
* Excellent scientific writing ability, with experience of producing high-quality technical reports and papers.
In addition, one or more of the following skills will strengthen the application:
* Consulting experience of delivering geoscience-related projects in one or more of our target sectors (Energy, Nuclear, Environment and Infrastructure).
* Experience of software development in languages such as Fortran, C++, or Java.
* Experience of data management using SQL/PostgreSQL and related tools.
* Successful experience of preparing bids to competitive tender processes.
* Experience in liaising with clients and managing professional relationships.
* Project Management skills.
