Lines of Responsibility • The Inclusion Leader reports to the Headteacher and Governors and is responsible for staff in the Inclusion Team. Aims • To support the Headteacher, Deputy Headteacher in creating, developing and evaluating the aims of the school in partnership with pupils, staff, governors and parents. • To foster the inclusion of all children regardless of gender, race or religion. • To lead, manage and coordinate provision for children with special educational needs. Key Leadership Responsibilities • To support and contribute to the school’s system for the review and evaluation of teaching and learning and curriculum provision. • To contribute to the pastoral care and maintaining high standards of behaviour in our school. • To display a high standard of professional behaviour and integrity at all times. • To promote a positive, supportive ethos for academic and social learning. • To keep abreast of local and national educational initiatives and cutting edge educational thinking, through own professional development. Key Inclusion Leader Responsibilities • To coordinate the day-to-day provision of education for all children with Special Educational Needs. • To oversee the day- to- day operation of the school’s SEN/Inclusion policy and encourage all members of staff to recognise and fulfil their statutory responsibilities towards pupils with SEN and additional needs. • To line manage the Inclusion team consisting of learning assistants and learning mentors and the full time Inclusion admin. support. • To liaise with the School Counselling Partnership and Play Therapist to ensure high quality provision is in place for promoting and supporting mental health across the school. • To line manage the Kaleidoscope ASD resource lead teacher and their team. • To be responsible for monitoring provision for children with an EHC Plans, LAC and SEN Support plans. • To teach small groups to ensure the high achievement of all pupils across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2. • To be responsible for contributing to the continuous improvement of the quality of teaching and learning throughout the school. • To take a key role in leading INSET in the school. • To maintain the list of SEN and supported pupils and to oversee their records. • To review all EHCPs annually. • To review SEN consultations for prospective children who could be admitted to the school. • To ensure that individual SEN support plans are written and reviewed at least twice a year. • To carry out and coordinate diagnostic assessments of students. • To liaise with parents of children with SEN. • To liaise with SENCOs in feeder and receiving schools. • To take an active role in the Harrow SEN leaders’ network. • To liaise with external services including the Educational Psychologist, Speech and Language Therapist, School Nurse, Educational Welfare Officer, Occupational Health, Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service, voluntary bodies and other support agencies. Qualifications: • Qualified Teacher status • Evidence of recent professional development relevant to the position. • Willingness to achieve SENCO qualification within three years if not currently held. Experience: • Leadership in raising standards of learning and teaching in one or more key stages. • Experience of effective involvement with parents and governors. • Experience of working with a range of outside agencies. • Working with children with SEN. Skills and accountability: • Proven to be highly effective in all aspects of their practice and therefore able to lead by example. • Ability to analyse, understand and interpret pupil achievement data. • Ability to lead and work in a team. • Ability to find solutions. • Ability to inspire and motivate others. • Ability to influence the quality of learning and teaching of others. • Good communication skills at all levels. • Good organisational and time management skills. • Confident user of IT. • Proven ability in delivering professional development to staff. Knowledge and Understanding: • Knowledge of relevant legislation including the SEND Code of Practice and the latest KCSIE. • Thorough grasp of current educational issues, particularly in relation to this post. • Knowledge and understanding of successful links between schools, especially partner schools. • Excellent understanding of robust safeguarding procedures and processes.
