As the Data Protection Officer, you will lead efforts to ensure North Wales Fire and Rescue Service compliance with privacy and data protection laws. You will set Information Governance standards, provide privacy by design support, and oversee the secure handling of personal and public data. Collaborating with key teams, you will mitigate risks, promote public trust, ensuring staff awareness of best practice and compliance with relevant legislation. Your expertise will be vital in shaping North wales Fire and Rescue Service’s approach to information security and ethical data use.
Principal duties and responsibilities will include: -
Informing and advising North Wales Fire and Rescue Authority (NWFRA) and its employees about their obligations arising from relevant and emerging legislation and regulations in respect of data protection including freedom of information and subject access requests. You will be the lead contact for the data protection legislation supervisory authority (Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and for individuals whose data is processed (staff, service users etc.) You will develop and maintain the governance of the Service’s information Assets. Own the information asset register and understand the flow of information between the assets. The successful candidate will be the responsible officer for all Freedom of Information and Environmental Information Regulations requests. Ensure that responses are provided within the statutory timescales, handle any FOI-related complaints in accordance with the relevant legislation, and act as the point-of-contact between the supervisory authority and the Service in the event of any appeals to the ICO.
