SPRINGFIELD ROAD SURGERY AND RIVERDALE SURGERY JOB DESCRIPTION JOB TITLE: MEDICAL ADMINISTRATOR / RECEPTIONIST Full-time / Temporary (Maternity Cover) REPORTS TO: RECEPTION SUPERVISOR/ASSISTANT PRACTICE MANAGER HOURS: 36 hours per week Monday, Tuesday, Thursday & Friday 9am-6pm, Wednesday 9am-1pm SALARY: £11.71 per hour Reviewed annually Criteria: Essential Experience in a previous front facing role, to include telephone and face-to-face contact. 5 GSCEs A-C including English and Mathematics grades. Good IT proficiency, knowledge of MS Office packages and keyboard skills. High standard of oral and written communication. Ability to work as a member of a team and on own initiative. Flexibility to cover periods of increased demand. Desirable Previous experience working in a GP practice or medical setting. Experience using medical software e.g. EMIS, Vision etc. Job Summary: The purpose of the role is to: Offer comprehensive assistance to the practice team and project a positive and friendly image to patients and other visitors, either in person or via the telephone. Receive, assist and direct patients in accessing the appropriate service or healthcare professional in a courteous, efficient and effective way. Undertake a variety of administrative duties to assist in the smooth running of the practice including the provision of secretarial and clerical support to clinical staff and other members of the practice team as required. Facilitate effective communication between patients, members the primary health care team, secondary care and other associated healthcare agencies Duties and Responsibilities: The duties and responsibilities to be undertaken by members of the practice reception team may include any or all of the items in the following list. Duties may be varied from time to time under the direction of the Practice Manager, dependent on current and evolving practice workload and staffing levels: Computer data entry/data allocation and collation; processing and recording information in accordance with practice procedures. Opening up/locking-up of practice premises and maintaining security in accordance with practice protocols. Maintaining and monitoring the practice appointments system. Processing personal and telephone requests for appointments, visits and telephone consultations and ensuring callers are directed to the appropriate healthcare professional. Processing and distributing incoming and outgoing mail. To be aware of GDPR / the Data Protection Act and of its importance and relevance to General Practice and to take part in any training as appropriate. Taking messages and accurately passing on information. Processing repeat prescriptions in accordance with practice guidelines. Initiating contact with and responding to requests from patients, other team member and associated healthcare agencies and providers. To assist in general office duties and reception work as required due to absence or annual leave. Filing and retrieving paperwork. Be flexible during times of high demand and when required by the practice.
