Senior Telecommunications Payload Engineer/Architect

The Senior Telecommunications Payload Engineer/Architect will mainly focus on our SiltaSat Project, providing the same capabilities of a traditional GEO communications satellite in a smaller, more affordable, quicker to space offering. This role is vital to the success of the projects as it enables communications.
We are looking for someone with extensive experience in radio frequency and optical engineering (digital capabilities would be a big plus), working at both board and system level on communications payloads. The individual must have previously worked on projects in the GEO environment.
Responsibilities:
* Being part of the technical lead team of telecom payloads for Small Satcom product.
* Architectural design of communication payloads including RF and Optical.
* Budgeting and maintaining the main parameters of each payload (Mass, consumption Dissipation and all relevant performance parameters).
* Manage and interface with the team members responsible for the other satellite subsystems.
* Define and analyse different components of the telecom payload, from passive units, RF active units to digital and optical components.
* Develop relationships with suppliers to define the design and the manufacturing AIT required.
* Define and prepare SoWs and specifications, working with the program team to assure the implementation of the design through the planned activities.
* Solving problems along with the rest of the subsystems to assure an efficient implementation of the mission.
* Working jointly with the AIT team to design and implement all relevant activities for the payload at all levels (subsystem and satellite level).
* Test Specification and Procedures development.
* Subsystem documentation shall be performed based on the architecture, analysis and units.
* Subsystem AIT (Activities of Integration & Test) based on the architecture shall be developed.
Skills And Requirements:
* Real-world experience with comms payload system architecture, requirements definition, flow down, tracking and performing system-level analyses.
* Experience of design or implementation of RF equipment used for telecom satellites (SSPAs, TWTs, distributed amplifiers, phased arrays, passive units like filters, switches, etc.).
* Experience of design or implementation of digital processors (transparent or regenerative) for satellites.
* Ability to analyse data, derive conclusions, and manage design documentation as well as review and approve design changes.
* Master or PhD degree in a relevant technical field and at least 5 to 10 years of relevant experience in the GEO comms satellite.
* Experience in ground segment is a plus.
* Must have ability to trade-off and optimize performance, resolve complex technical problems, manage technical work with partners.
* Extensive experience with various relevant system modelling and analysis tools is a must (electromagnetic, antenna simulation, general purpose coding tools, etc.).
* Autonomous and proactive working style and teamwork oriented.
* Knowledge and professional experience of the full lifecycle of space related implementation is a plus.
* Fluent written and spoken skills in English.

Location of the role:
This role can be based either at our HQ in Helsinki, Finland or London, UK. We support relocation to Helsinki and integration into Finnish society.
