We have Exciting opportunity for a Senior Biomedical Scientist to lead and inspire within the Clinical Microbiology service at the Royal Cornwall Hospital, Truro.
Responsible for the management and delivery of the Microbiology service, the post holder will be a state registered Biomedical Scientist (BMS) with extensive experience and knowledge in Clinical Microbiology and will have the ability to be a multi-disciplined section lead covering both Virology and Bacteriology on rotation. You will also provide managerial and professional leadership across the wider department. There is an expectation you will take part in the late/call shift system within the department.
This is a fulltime post working 37.5 hours per week. A flexible attitude to working hours is essential. Hours are currently within a framework of 08:00 - 21:00 including weekends and Bank Holiday working together with an out of hours service covering 21:00 – 08:00.

To a lead in the daily running of the lab including authorisation in bacteriology and virology sections in rotation with the other senior BMS .
Supervise staff, organise and prioritise workload to meet demanding deadlines.
To advise staff on the interpretation of laboratory tests and further required testing.
Ensure lower grades of scientific and scientific support staff comply with Health and Safety protocols as set out in relevant documentation and that laboratory and surrounding area also comply with Health and Safety.
Assist in the production of all Standard Operating Procedures for laboratory analyses, use of equipment, care of the working environment.
Facilitate the keeping of adequate stocks of reagents and consumables in line with timely use.
Engage with the QMS and instil a quality culture in the laboratory.
Engage in the implementation and development of laboratory systems.
Co-ordinate EQA registration and reporting.
Monitor performance of the department through published KPI’s.
Ensure that goods are ordered, recorded and monitored in a timely fashion.
Arrange and monitor annual maintenance contracts for laboratory equipment, standing orders and consumables and ensure continuity of supply.
Monitor staff competence.
Perform appraisals.
