Job summary To work as part of the ophthalmic team, delivering an unsupervised, high-quality technical and specialist service. Performing visual assessments including visual acuity, visual fields, optical coherence tomography (OCT), Corneal topography, Specular microscopy, Retinal imaging, measurement of intraocular pressure, and other technical measurements which provide information for clinical decisions/treatments of eye and neurological conditions. At times the postholder may be asked for their advice by medical staff and patients on the results achieved for each of these tests. Main duties of the job The job requires effective communication with various teams, including medical staff, clerical workers, and patient's and relatives, ensuring clear communication within the team and with patients. Clinical responsibilities include performing diagnostic tests, ensuring accurate patient assessments, providing clear instructions, using equipment like Optical Coherence Tomography and visual field testers, administering dilating drugs, and tailoring care to individual patient needs. The post-holder will engage in professional development, participate in team-building, support a learning environment, and supervise and mentor learners, as well as contribute to teaching programs. The role emphasises safeguarding vulnerable individuals, reducing healthcare-associated infections, and adhering to infection control policies while ensuring patient safety and well-being during diagnostic procedures.
