Finance Analyst - Commercial
Open to Job Share, Full Time or Part Time
£45,000-£55,000 + Bonus + Pension + BUPA + ShareSave + 6.6 weeks holiday
Southampton, Store Support Office, Hybrid working, 3 days a week in the office
This role provides financial business partnering to the B&Q commercial team, providing support, advice, and challenge on key commercial activity.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Lead the financial support for the commercial category — acting as the go-to finance partner for the category team and ensuring strong alignment between commercial priorities and financial objectives.
2. Proactively manage the category’s financial agenda — delivering accurate and insightful reporting on trading, margin, planning, and strategic investments.
3. Take ownership of your workload and projects, effectively prioritising and managing time to meet key deadlines.
4. Maintain a forward-looking approach to managing category performance, identifying and managing potential risks & opportunities on a short- and long-term basis.
5. Lead the financial management of key commercial investments, including robust business case development and appropriate performance tracking to inform category decisions.
6. Develop scenario modelling and what-if analysis to validate, challenge, and influence ad-hoc category strategic and tactical proposals.
7. Support categories on the financial management of vendors, providing net profitability and cashflow modelling and recommendations.
8. Take ownership of commercial-related costs and support the accounting team in ensuring they are correctly accounted for.
9. Be an active participant in the wider finance agenda — ensuring category activity is considered across other areas such as channels, operations, and supply.
10. Present clear, concise messages to non-finance stakeholders — simplifying complex data into actionable insight.
11. Collaborate across the commercial finance team to share best practices and improve analytical approaches.
12. Deputise for the Senior Commercial Finance Manager as required.
Required Skills & Experience:
1. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
2. Ability to analyse, interpret, and distil complex information using judgement & offering recommendations.
3. Self-starter with ability to critically prioritise in a fast-paced environment.
4. High resilience with an ability to produce high-quality work under pressure.
Essential Technical / Professional Qualifications:
1. Competent user of Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint.
2. Professional accountancy qualification with 2+ years post-qualification experience (i.e. CIMA / ACCA / ACA etc).
3. Drives Improvements & looks for opportunities across processes / performance / themselves.
4. Commercial experience preferable.
