We are seeking a motivated and committed candidate to start their career in construction as an Apprentice Waste Resource Operative. This is an opportunity to earn while you learn on a paid apprenticeship with the additional support of the Shared Apprenticeships team.
A Waste Resources Operative covers a number of roles and responsibilities in the collection, transport, processing, disposal and recycling of waste and recyclables. The Waste Resources Operative may work at a number of different sites and locations.
The Waste Resource Operative needs to have an understanding of the principles of waste and recycling. This will include identifying waste and recyclables, sorting and segregation, treatment options, duty of care and health, safety, quality and environmental issues.
The role of the Waste Resource Operative is to assist in the day to day running of the site or activity, to ensure that processes are carried out safely and efficiently. They will also contribute to the protection of the environment, efficient use of resources and enhancing quality in compliance with relevant regulation; they will contribute to delivering "best in sector" operational performance in the organisation.
The role may involve working outside in all types of weather and will require an element of physical work, some roles will require a lot of daily walking.

The placement is within the construction sector with involve
* Physical labouring to prepare soil for treatment
* Keeping site clean and tidy
* Receiving waste transfer tickets and operating weighbridge (training given)
* Assisting in screening of soil and contaminated material
* Sampling of stockpiles and contaminated material
* Plant checks and maintenance
* Driving of dumper, loading shovel and excavator (training given)
* Asbestos identification (training given)
* Environmental monitoring (training given)
* Collecting and delivering items between job sites and office

The employer
Our apprentices work on placement with host contractors in their local area whilst employed by Shared Apprenticeships.
Our apprentices have support of an Apprentice Manager who is committed to seeing each apprentice through to completion and onward progression to full-time employment in the industry and/or a higher apprenticeship.
The study
The training for this apprenticeship will be WASTE RESOURCE OPERATIVE LEVEL 2 and is expected to be delivered by a local college or independent training provider. The apprenticeship will typically take 12 months to complete.
Entry Requirements
Apprentices without Level 1 English and Maths will need to achieve this level and take the test for Level 2 English and Maths prior to taking the end point assessment.
