Job Summary
VANRATH are delighted to be partnering a public sector organisation seeking an experienced IT Security Officer. This is a challenging new post within the Information Systems (IS) Office. The IT Security Officer will lead Information Technology Security functions, supporting and reshaping the provision of information systems. The successful delivery of information systems in a rapidly changing technical environment presents many strategic, operational, and technical challenges to the post holder.
Reporting into the Head of IT, this is a full-time role (5 days per week) for 6 months with the possibility of extension, offering a hybrid working model and good work-life balance.
Key Responsibilities
As the IT Security Officer, you will:
1. Work alongside the Head of IT to develop the organisation's IT vision, strategy and accompanying action plan.
2. Identify future challenges in the IT landscape and develop relevant mitigation strategies.
3. Research and evaluate existing and emerging technologies, particularly cloud computing.
4. Provide strategic and authoritative technical advice to the Senior Management Team (SMT) and the Head of IT.
5. Represent the organisation at external forums and events.
6. Lead, develop, implement, and monitor a comprehensive technical information security program.
7. Provide professional expertise and advice to ensure adherence to data protection and information security standards.
8. Lead and define security best practices and align them with organisational goals.
9. Implement technical security controls and ensure adherence by all team members.
10. Lead the team supporting the daily operations of security systems.
11. Review and analyse security alerts and logs for potential vulnerabilities.
12. Coordinate with IS teams to ensure secure system configurations.
13. Support the secure adoption of new technologies from the Microsoft technology stack.
14. Conduct assessments across all new technical/data related projects.
15. Provide technical security advice for internally developed information systems.
16. Other duties include developing and leading staff, risk assessment, incident response, compliance, security awareness, and supplier management.
Essential Criteria
Applicants must, by the closing date for applications:
1. Possess at least a Bachelor's (or higher) Degree in Computing or relevant discipline.
2. Have a minimum of 3 years' experience in the following areas:
1. Working across a multi-discipline technology stack, including cloud environments, firewalls, IDS/IPS, SIEM, DLP, and networking.
2. Working in roles such as Security Operations, Incident Response, and Risk Management.
3. Working knowledge/experience of information security management systems (ISMS).
3. Possess a professional certification that aligns with the responsibilities of the role (e.g., CISSP, CCSP).
OR
1. Have at least 6 years' experience in a cyber security role.
2. Have a minimum of 3 years' experience in the areas described above.
3. Possess a professional certification and demonstrate knowledge of ISMS.
