We’re recruiting for a high-profile role to lead AI strategy and innovation across a large, complex public sector environment. Location: London, Manchester, or Bristol
Day Rate: £800
Contract: Inside IR35, until 1st September 2025
Work Setup: Hybrid (3 days in the office per week)
Security Clearance: BPSS required
As Principal Technologist (AI Domain), you’ll play a pivotal role in helping public sector organisations adopt and integrate advanced AI and machine learning capabilities to enhance services and operations. This position requires not only technical expertise but also the ability to bridge the gap between complex AI concepts and practical, impactful solutions for non-technical audiences.
Key Responsibilities
* Define AI Strategy: Develop and secure endorsement for a long-term AI strategy across government bodies.
* Architect and Implement: Design and deliver machine learning systems with complex data pipelines, covering large-scale LLM interactions, augmentations, fine-tuning, testing, evaluation, and profiling.
* Advise and Educate: Provide strategic advice on AI adoption and performance optimization, guiding departments in advanced machine learning applications while clearly communicating complex topics to senior civil servants and non-technical stakeholders.
* Set Standards and Mentor: Promote best practices in machine learning, outlier detection, clustering, and attribute calculation. Mentor technologists, engaging with senior stakeholders to ensure cohesive technology integration.
* Team Collaboration: Collaborate in a supportive team environment, ensuring team members have the resources needed to succeed.
What We’re Looking For
* Hands-On AI/ML Experience: Strong background in AI and Data Science, with experience in architecture, design, and the end-to-end implementation of machine learning systems.
* Deep Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in complex data pipelines, understanding LLM interactions, and methodologies like outlier detection, clustering, and attribute selection and decoration.
* Stakeholder Communication: Ability to translate complex technical topics into plain English for senior civil servants and non-technical users.
* Relevant Certifications: Ideally certified in Architecture, Data, IT Operations, or Software Development.
* Digital & Data Transformation: Proven experience in driving large-scale digital and data transformation initiatives.
