The vetting unit are the gatekeepers of organisational integrity and as Vetting and Professional Standards Department Researcher you will play a key part in keeping the community safe and upholding ethical policing standards, at a time when reassuring the public about the suitability of police personnel has never been more important. Key responsibilities: As Vetting and Professional Standard Department Researcher you will build rapport with applicants and have an innate sense for the truth, youll know when to dig a little deeper and can spot inaccuracies or inconsistencies. No matter what you hear or see, you will remain professional, fair, and discreet. You will be expected to write reports which must be balanced, succinct and clear and make decisions in line with the police national decision model, summarising your analysis and recommending or deciding whether someone should hold a particular Police Security or National Security Vetting clearance. Your interactions and vetting decisions must be without conscious or unconscious bias and will be open to scrutiny. Well invest in you No direct experience is required as full training will be given however, we are looking for a handful of key skills in addition to a commitment to work towards and pass the Police National Database (PND) and Police National Computer (PNC) courses. Key skills: Excellent IT skills and the ability to work accurately Good verbal and written communication skills Working as part of a team and providing excellent customer service Proven ability to manage high process driven workloads in accordance with strict deadlines Available vacancy: We currently have a full time (37 hours) permanent opportunity available. Applications will also be considered for future temporary and permanent opportunities which may arise within the next 12 months. Applicants that successfully pass the selection process will be retained on a holding list for 12 months. Applicants should note that whilst the current vacancy is on a full-time basis, future part time opportunities may become available within the next 12 months. For internal candidates, applications will be considered on a fixed term basis in line with the general principles of the secondment procedure. This means you must have successfully passed your probationary period and receive full support from your line manager and Head of Function before submitting an application.
