South Tyneside and Sunderland Speech and Language Therapy Service Childrens Team:
1.0 full-time, 37.5hrs per week, permanent B6 Specialist Speech and Language Therapist.
Due to increased investment into our service, we have an exciting opportunity for a Specialist Speech and Language Therapist to join our Childrens Speech and Language Therapy Service.
You will work predominantly within schools covered by Oak Learning Trust. 3 days a week will be in Columbia Grange School. This is a co-educational school for children with severe learning difficulties and/or autism between the ages of five to eleven years. 2 days a week you will work in other schools covered by the Oak Learning Trust. They include 4 mainstream primary schools, 2 of which have resource-based units for children with autism.
You will be part of our needs-led team, which is dynamic, well-structured and well-run. You will have the opportunity to develop your skills and work with other therapists and assistants in our team. We cover South Tyneside and Sunderland localities. There are excellent supervision and support arrangements in place. Continuing Professional Development (CPD), research, and innovation are encouraged. Our team has admin and SLT Assistant support.
Main duties of the job
You will have experience of working with children with a range of speech, language, and communication difficulties, and be able to assess, plan and provide intervention and therapy within a range of settings. You will be interested in developing your skills to provide support to children with autism and will be keen to work closely with partners across education settings as well as parents/carers.
You will have excellent interpersonal skills and be committed to working in a multi-disciplinary way to facilitate the best outcomes for children. You will be well supported by our dynamic Speech and Language Therapy team. You may also have experience of working with children with eating, drinking, and swallowing needs.

To provide a specialist speech, language, and communication service to patients with a wide range of speech, language, communication, eating, and drinking difficulties across a range of community settings including Health Centres, mainstream schools, specialist provisions, and early years settings.
To provide clinical support and mentoring for less experienced Speech and Language Therapists and supervision for students and Speech and Language Therapy assistants.
To develop and deliver specialist training and education programmes regarding speech and language disorders to parents, carers, and other professionals.
To participate in clinical governance activity i.e. research, audit, evidence-based practice.
To liaise with and advise other agencies/professionals involved with the patient.
To contribute to service planning, improvement, and modernization to ensure patient safety.

Qualifications

* Recognized Speech and Language Therapy Degree qualification.
* Membership of Health Care Professions Council.
* Eligibility for membership of Royal College of Speech and Language Therapists.
* Fulfillment of NQT RCSLT competency criteria.
* Evidence of attendance at a wide range of short courses in specialist area e.g. Motor Speech Disorders, Specific Language Disorders.
* Evidence of CPD including successful completion of specialist post-graduate training e.g. RCSLT accredited Dysphagia Management Course (Paediatrics), Hanen Certificate, Makaton Signing System.
* Membership of relevant Special Interest Groups.
* Well-established knowledge of a range of specialist assessment tools relevant to a wide range of paediatric communication disorders.
* Knowledge of current national policies and procedures e.g. Education, Health and Care Planning process (Children and Families Act 2014).
* Knowledge of trends/best practice across the clinical specialisms.
* In-depth knowledge of a range of therapeutic interventions relevant to the client groups and an ability to compare and contrast relative benefits of each.
