Assistant Underwriter
The Role:
We have an exciting opportunity for an Assistant Underwriter to join Morton Michel. This role would suit someone with 2-3 years of insurance experience. Morton Michel's underwriting team supports the Direct, Advised, and Wholesale teams dealing with underwriting queries from all aspects of the customer’s journey.
You will need to be organized and have excellent communication skills with the ability to build effective relationships at all levels, with brokers, insurers, and across the business.
You will work in a wider team responsible for the product and propositions and work closely with the other customer-facing teams.
Responsibilities:
1. Assist with underwriting referrals for new business quotations, mid-term adjustments, and renewals in line with agreed delegated underwriting authority guidelines.
2. Handle renewals and remedial information required following claims.
3. Handle queries within your agreed authority limits.
4. Organize your work and prioritize effectively.
5. Adhere to compliance and regulatory procedures.
6. Ensure that team KPI’s, service standards, and targets are achieved and exceeded where possible.
7. Complete Technical QA’s based on a monthly allocation of cases.
8. Generate reports on Acturis, Excel, and other system tools for use across the underwriting team to monitor work.
Experience:
1. Proficient in Excel.
2. 2-3 years of insurance experience, with previous knowledge of delegated authority schemes.
3. Experience working within a regulated FCA environment (essential).
4. Good experience using bespoke systems, preferably including Acturis.
5. High attention to detail, coupled with excellent organization and time management skills.
6. Able to work under pressure, adapt, and be flexible in approach.
7. Good communication skills with the ability to communicate at all levels.
