Overview of the Clinical Teaching Fellow in ENT role
This is a new post which will offer a unique combination of teaching and research opportunities at SFH. It will involve taking a lead role in the organisation, development and delivery of clinical teaching and tutorials to medical students based at SFH, both within the clinical workplace and in a teaching/skills environment.
Personal teaching skills will be developed and improved, along with understanding and experience of experimental learning, competency assessment and evaluation tools. There will also be the opportunity to develop skills and experience in non-technical areas such as communication and de/briefing working alongside experienced faculty members.
The post would be ideal for either a post CT2-ST3, an experienced SHO or Specialist Registrar who has a clinical background involving Otorhinolaryngology. The successful applicant will also have an interest in medical education and educational research.

You will be based at King’s Mill Hospital, and you will be working alongside other Teaching Fellows in other specialties and will be able to work together on projects and share good practice.
The ENT Department provides clinical teaching for medical students from the University of Nottingham Medical School. The ENT module is within the new Foundation for Practice (FFP) course for 3rd year students, and this is the first full-time clinical attachment for medical students, which runs from late February to the end of October. This is a brand-new course and forms part of the new curriculum that started in February 2022. There are 5 blocks of 6 weeks with approximately 12 students per block (60 in total).
The Clinical Teaching Fellow will develop the course structure, assessment criteria and materials. The role holder will also deliver taught sessions, clinical teaching and mandatory assessments (DOPs and Min-Cex) that are part of each module.

This is a 1- or 2-year post (subject to satisfactory annual review). The aim of the post is to work alongside the Undergraduate Lead for ENT (currently Ms Montio Morgan), the Associate Clinical Sub Dean (currently Dr Nicola Downer) and other Clinical Teaching Fellows to both deliver teaching to medical students at SFH and to develop new initiatives when teaching students.
The appointee will be expected to fulfil the following duties within the agreed Job Plan.
The post holder will be responsible for the development and teaching to FFP ENT medical students as they rotate through their placement at KMH. Responsibility for the following:
1. Organisation of a programme of learning over 12-24 months
2. Deliver induction, tutorials, and practical skills sessions for medical students
3. Organising and conducting formative assessments
4. Contributing questions for online summative assessment.
5. Providing intensive coaching for ENT re-sit students and other clinical students.
6. Collating and disseminating feedback and updating the course/curriculum
7. To establish case histories available for tutorial discussions and develop self-directed learning materials.
8. Maintain key working relationships with clinical staff, administrative staff, academic staff, clinical directors in ENT Module and the undergraduate co-ordinator at SFH.
9. Support all areas of the clinical course, whether teaching, workshops, teaching fellow meetings and other initiatives
10. Support other Teaching and Patient Workshops as required.
