NURSING DIRECTORATE
TRAUMA & ORTHOPAEDICS OUTPATIENTS DEPARTMENT Team Leader/ Sister (Band 6) hours per week
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and enthusiastic experienced member of staff to join the Trauma & Orthopaedics outpatients team, working between both Russells Hall Hospital and Corbett's Hospital. The service runs Monday- Friday (08:30-18:00) with additional weekend and evening clinics running occasionally.
This is a great opportunity to gain knowledge or build on your current knowledge and experience in Orthopaedics. You will be working in both elective orthopaedic, trauma orthopaedic as well as virtual fracture clinics.

Main duties of the job
To take responsibility for all aspects of day to day management and nursing care within own clinical specialty and support the Trauma and Orthopaedic Team. This includes but is not limited to monitoring availability of virtual fracture clinics to ensure patients receive a timely review and assisting departmental Lead Nurse in managing the T&O Outpatients Department.
Setting standards of care in conjunction with Trauma and Orthopaedics Directorate, co-ordinate services so that total patient needs are identified, ensuring appropriate individual patient care is given. This involves regular reviewing and updating of patient information and working protocols.
The post holder will provide expert clinical and managerial advice and support to staff and patients and also work as part of the team within the Outpatients Department, deputising for the Lead Nurse as required.

1. Registered Nurse
2. Teaching/mentoring qualification
3. Degree level study
Desirable
4. ECDL or working towards
Knowledge and Training
Essential
5. Evidence of professional development
6. Clinically competent in the performance of relevant clinical task such as venepuncture, ECG or willing to undertake training to acquire the skill
7. Ability to undertake clinical skills within this speciality and demonstrate some advanced skills or be willing to undertake required training
8. Knowledge of trust protocols, policy and procedures

9. Working knowledge of NICE guidelines and impact on services
Communication and relationship skills

10. Demonstrates ability to work effectively as part of multi- disciplinary team

Experience

13. Proven experience in an outpatient environment as a Band 5 Staff nurse or above
14. Experience in basic casting techniques and be willing to complete internal plaster technique competencies or to gain nationally recognised plaster casting qualification
15. Worked as part of a MDT within acute NHS environment

16. Experience of acting as a mentor/precentor for staff on clinical placements.
