Job Title: Temp Institute Manager\n\nLocation: London \n\nContract: 6 months \n\nHours: 36.5 hours \n\nRates: £35-38 per hour \n\nJob Description\n\nSRG are looking for a temporary institute manager for a university based in London. We are seeking to recruit an experienced Operations Manager for the Institute of Prion Diseases, on a temporary basis for a period of up to 6 months. This post is the senior professional services manager for the Institute.
The Institute Manager works closely with and reports to the Institute Director providing excellent service delivery to the Institute's academic and research staff; enabling and adding value to the activities that are core to the Institute.\n\nDuties and Responsibilities \n\nThe primary functions of the position are to:\n\nTo lead the professional services operational, technical and administrative functions ensuring the support services are delivered in an efficient, responsive and professional manner supporting excellence in research, education, knowledge transfer and enterprise.\nEnsure the Institute operates within the set budgetary frameworks and policies, providing budgetary and financial management of the Institute and optimising the use of resources.\nProactively support the role of the Institute Director in implementing the Institute's scientific and operational strategy and inhouse strategy, maintaining oversight of the operation and performance of the Institute.\nCollaborate and coordinate with relevant business partners and professional services leads to ensure services delivery at Faculty, School and university level meet the needs of the Institute.\nEnsure the Institute is compliant with statutory regulations and MRC/Institute policies and procedures are implemented and operated effectively.\nTo manage the Institute's external relations initiatives.Working relationships:\n\nThe post holder is directly accountable to the Director of the Institute\nThe post holder line manages and is responsible, directly or indirectly, for staff (up to 6 senior direct reports and up to 30 indirect reports) working within the administration and support services reporting to the post holder.\nThe post holder will develop and maintain working relations with:Faculty Director of Operations\n\nScientists working in the Institute \n\nUKRI/MRC Head office\n\nInstitute Directors and Managers in the Faculty and across\n\nCentral Professional Services\n\nRepresentatives of funding agencies\n\nRepresentatives of NHS Trusts\n\nRepresentatives of commercial companies\n\nGovernment officers\n\nThird Party service suppliers\n\nExperience and Qualifications\n\nProven track record in a senior role in administration, operations and management within a higher education environment.\nPromoting excellence in areas of administration and the provision of support services, including the setting of service standards and monitoring of performance.\nRecruiting, managing and developing individuals effectively and advising on employment issues at a senior level.\nDemonstrable experience of effective budgetary management and control of a large scale, complex budgetary unit, including achieving annual targets on a regular basis.\nDemonstrable experience of research funding principles and governance.\nDemonstrable experience of enacting principles of employment law underpinning university HR policy (e.g. equal pay issues, job evaluation, clinical and honorary contracts, doctors' training/career structures, fixed term contracts).\nEducated to minimum of degree level and preferably PhD level in scientific discipline\nExperience of project and change management.\nExperience of effective budgetary management and control.\nDetailed knowledge of research grant, contracts and other agreements\nExperience of recruiting, managing and developing individuals.\nExperience of working with business partners (e.g. Human Resources Consultancy teams and Information System Divisions) to deliver services, and implement change management and strategy\nExperience of working with NHS partners and clinical academics.\nGood understanding of the higher education policies, practices and procedures.\nExperience of handling confidential information and communications in a sensitive and effective manner.
