The Opportunity
We are seeking a dynamic and experienced Managing Director to lead our EMEA investment initiatives. Working closely with investment professionals possessing deep sector and regional expertise, you will play a pivotal role in identifying, evaluating, and executing direct investments in the EMEA region.
Who you'll work with
You will report to the Senior Managing Director (SMD), Equities for EMEA and lead a small team of investment professionals. You will also collaborate closely with a complex network of stakeholders including the Global Sector SMD, deal teams, Value Creation team, international office leaders, portfolio companies, etc.
What you'll do
1. Building Sector Franchise:
o Develop and execute a comprehensive business plan for your assigned sector.
o Identify thematic investment strategies and cultivate preferred origination networks.
o Prioritize and manage a portfolio of preferred investment targets.
2. Deal Evaluation and Execution:
o Lead a small team in evaluating new investment opportunities, ensuring alignment with strategic objectives.
o Conduct rigorous industry and company due diligence, leveraging analytical and quantitative skills.
o Drive negotiation of legal agreements and facilitate the investment process from inception to completion.
3. Value Creation and Portfolio Management:
o Collaborate with management teams to implement value-enhancing initiatives post-transaction.
o Serve on boards or in board observer roles, providing strategic guidance and oversight.
o Lead projects and initiatives to drive growth and optimize portfolio performance.
4. Network Development and Collaboration:
o Cultivate and expand networks with key stakeholders, including operating executives, CEOs, and industry partners.
o Collaborate cross-functionally with global sector leaders and internal teams to achieve shared objectives.
o Foster a culture of collaboration and inclusivity, balancing confident decision-making with inclusive leadership.
What you'll need
* 15+ years meaningful work experience, with ideally the most recent experience being in leading deals in the European private equity market.
* Experience in playing a leading role in the investment process, including conducting due diligence, leading multiple diligence streams such as financial, operational, legal, tax, insurance as well as arranging debt financing and negotiating documentation.
* Demonstrated track record of success in private equity investments, with proven returns across market cycles.
* Strong academic background, preferably with a financial designation (MBA, CFA, etc.).
* Extensive experience in European private equity and/or significant M&A transactions.
* Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build constructive relationships.
* Proven leadership experience, ideally including board-level roles and project management.
* Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-performance environment, balancing competing priorities effectively.
* Willingness to travel as needed.
