Have you ever considered a career in Clinical Coding? Perhaps this field is new to you, but if you are looking for a career to embark upon which offers training, numerous progression opportunities and a flexible working approach then Clinical Coding could be for you!
Clinical Coding is the translation of medical terminology into formatted and standardised codes. The role requires an individual who enjoys reading medical details, diagnoses and procedures and investigating the full medical record in order to translate into our standardised ICD-10 and OPCS codes. Training will be provided by our Approved Trainer to begin you on your Coding journey, and we offer training throughout the year to ensure all our Coders maintain their skillset and keep up to date with national changes.
Main duties of the job
We are looking for an individual who is keen to learn, driven towards success, and who enjoys a challenge. The role involves in-depth reading and scrutinising of medical terminology so good knowledge of anatomy and physiology is required. Attention to detail is key as you will be required to produce consistent, accurate, complete and timely coded clinical data for use by the Trust's finance department, clinicians and senior managers.
The successful applicant will need to demonstrate an ability to work to a high degree of accuracy with attention to detail. You must be self-motivated, able to work well under pressure, be flexible in your approach, and you must be able to work well as part of a team working to tight deadlines.
You should have a good understanding of medical terminology, anatomy, and physiology. Good IT skills are also necessary as are good communication skills. The successful candidate will provide a vital and dynamic coding role within an excellent, high achieving and supportive coding team.
About us
Our vision for Single Corporate Services: Isle of Wight NHS Trust (IWT) and Portsmouth Hospitals University NHS Trust (PHU) have a shared vision of a single corporate service across our two organisations, supported by a single set of identical systems and processes, under joint leadership, to drive significant efficiencies, improve employee experience, and return time to patient care.
This vacancy is part of the Single Corporate Services Division.
Why are we changing the way we deliver Corporate Services? Working as a partnership, both IWT and PHU have a shared vision for excellence in care for our patients and communities; with a set of strategic aims underpinning how we will achieve this. The creation of a single corporate service is essential for us to support our clinical and operational services, and our wider transformation programme.
Job responsibilities
The vision for our single corporate services is to:
* Be an employer of choice for corporate talent, attracting and retaining people who share our values for excellence in care and welcome the opportunity to benefit from the broad range of flexible career and development opportunities we can offer.
* Improve efficiency through simplified and standardised policies, processes, and systems, drawing on the best from both Trusts.
* Do things once and reduce any duplication on transactional tasks giving corporate staff the ability to focus on higher value and more diverse activities.
* Co-invest in the latest digital solutions and standardise our approach, meaning we do things once for both organisations.
* Improve learning and development opportunities and sharing best practice, upskilling both Trusts.
* Co-locate teams in purpose-built facilities on the Island and in Portsmouth to enable closer working and sharing.
* Build resilience for individuals and our teams.
While this role requires a lot of introverted work, it is essential that the successful candidate holds great communication skills. There will be a continual need to communicate professionally and clearly with other Coders in both IOW site and Portsmouth site, along with various other clinical professionals.
This role is a full-time position based on the Isle of Wight in the Coding office at St Mary's. Work from home is an option once training complete and coding independently.
Clinical Coding is often considered a hidden role in the NHS but an important one. If you want to know more about the role, the training, the team or anything else please contact the IOW Coding Manager Rebecca Barton on 01983 822099 extension 3042.
