We are working with a specialist law firm in the Midlands seeking a Legal Assistant to join their family team in Worcester. The role involves providing legal support and advice to clients on family law matters, including care work and publicly funded public law. This is an excellent opportunity for someone looking to build a career in family law.
Responsibilities include:
o Provide legal support to clients, referring agencies, team members, and firm directors.
o Open and close case files on the firm's case management system (ALB) with accuracy.
o Manage fee earners' diaries, ensuring key dates and deadlines are met.
o Prepare and organise court bundles, draft witness statements, position statements, and briefs to counsel.
o Scan, save, and organise correspondence, emails, and documents on the case management system.
o Liaise with clients, experts, counsel, and third parties, ensuring accurate communication and documentation.
o Complete Legal Aid applications, including cost limit increases and expert instruction.
o Check and process invoices from counsel, experts, and interpreters, ensuring they match agreed quotations.
o Maintain compliance with Legal Aid Agency (LAA) guidelines and funding regulations.
o Answer client and third-party enquiries via phone and email, taking instructions and preparing draft statements.
o Participate in business development, networking, and completing professional development courses.
o Ensure confidentiality, professionalism, and compliance with GDPR and Data Protection regulations.
What we need from you:
o Previous experience and knowledge of family law, including private and public matters.
o Excellent IT skills, including Microsoft Office, document management, and case management systems (ALB).
o Strong communication, client care, and ability to work independently and as part of a team.
o Professional, proactive approach with sensitivity in handling vulnerable clients and legal aid matters.
