Role: Senior or Nursery Practitioner
Location: Gomersal
Working Days: Monday to Friday
Salary: £24-26k depending on experience
Position Overview:
To provide a high standard of all areas of learning and developmental care for all children in the nursery and support other team members.
Qualifications and Educational Requirements:
Be appropriately qualified in a relevant childcare qualification i.e. Diploma in Nursery Nursing, NNEB or NVQ Level 2 or 3, as a minimum requirement.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Comply with all SSG policies and procedures.
2. Operate a programme of activities that meet the individual needs and interests of children in your area in conjunction with other team members.
3. Give children the choice and the freedom to play in their own way.
4. Listen to children about any concerns or worries they may have, acting as an advocate or mediator when appropriate.
5. Fulfill the observation, planning and assessment cycle, keeping up to date records of your key children's development and learning journeys and sharing this with parents, carers, and other key adults in the child's life.
6. Work in partnership with parents, family members, and carers by respecting and understanding their individual needs and maintaining courtesy and confidentiality at all times.
7. Form strong attachments and nurturing relationships with the children in your care.
8. Be aware and alert to situations of child neglect and possible abuse and act in accordance with the Child Protection and safeguarding guidelines.
9. Offer equality of opportunity for all.
10. Liaise with other professional bodies such as Ofsted when needed.
11. Be aware of and work appropriately in relation to confidential and sensitive information.
12. Encourage fair and caring behaviour among the children and staff.
13. Develop and maintain strong partnerships and communications with parents/carers to facilitate day-to-day caring and early learning needs.
14. Ensure that children are well supervised at all times.
15. Maintain a safe, secure, and friendly environment for the children in accordance with current EYFS, Ofsted, HSE, and Food Hygiene regulations and guidelines.
16. Ensure that children are stimulated and that appropriate play activities are delivered in respect of their age and ability, considering individual needs regarding race, religion, social, gender, and culture differences.
17. Be a positive role model for children.
18. Assist in washing and toileting of children and teach children personal hygiene.
19. Ensure that the nursery's property is kept clean and tidy and that children are encouraged to respect their surroundings.
20. Provide materials and equipment to create play spaces in a responsible and safe way.
21. Develop your role within the team and establish and maintain good working relationships, especially with regard to being a key person.
22. Ensure regular checks on resources and equipment, including cleaning, maintenance, and occasional disposal.
23. Be flexible within working practices of the nursery and be prepared to help where needed, including undertaking certain domestic jobs.
24. Be enthusiastic, cheerful, and have a sense of humour at all times.
25. Ensure handbooks are completed.
Special Requirements:
1. Before confirming your appointment/employment, you will be required to obtain the relevant DBS enhanced disclosure, which must be cleared.
2. A minimum of two references must be obtained and checked; one must be from your previous employer and/or most recent childcare employer.
